PHILADELPHIA – The Reebok Breakout Challenge came to a close yesterday, and NBE Basketball Report was on hand to take in the event’s final five game sets and catch up with a few more players.
One of the top uncommitted 2012 players at the camp was Daniel Dingle, a 6-foot-6 power forward out of St. Raymond’s (NY). He listed offers from Auburn, Temple, Xavier, Arizona, and Rutgers to go along with interest from Florida, Miami, Texas, and others.
Dingle said he does not have any favorites, but did note that a few schools are coming at him the hardest.
“I’d probably say Auburn, Temple and Arizona, those are the three,” Dingle said. “And Florida, Florida too, coach Norm [Roberts].”
At this point Dingle has visited Auburn, Temple and Rutgers. He does not have any visits scheduled, but may is thinking of working out a trip to Arizona.
Dingle, who does not have a timetable for a commitment, is being recruited by a few of the same schools as Long Island Lightning teammates Kareem Canty and Kamari Murphy. Have they discussed going to college together?
“Just two of us, me and Kamari,” Dingle said, adding, “We just talked about a lot of schools, whatever school gives us the best opportunity to both be successful.”
Dingle said that while he “would like to” play with Murphy at the next level, it is not a definite.

Josh Brown, a 6-foot-2 class of 2013 combo guard out of St. Anthony’s (NJ), is coming off a superb spring with Sports U/Team IZOD. However, he said he has no scholarship offers at this point.
As far as interest, Brown said he is hearing from St. Joseph’s, Temple, La Salle, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UMass, Connecticut, Iona, Florida Atlantic, and others. After listing Temple as his favorite in the spring, Brown said he no longer has any favorites.
“I like every school,” Brown said of his recruitment. “It’s just wide open right now.”
Florida Atlantic, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s, and La Salle are the schools that Brown said are coming after him the hardest.
Last month Brown took a visit to St. Joseph’s, which he said was his first campus trip. He plans to get out to some more schools, including Temple and Rutgers, come August.

California native Ikenna Iroegbu, a 6-foot-1 class of 2013 point guard who is headed to Oak Hill Academy (VA), has seen his recruitment pickup of late. At the end of May he had no offers, but has since picked up ones from Arizona, USC, Colorado and Oklahoma State.
“Probably about a week after Bob Gibbons I got USC and Oklahoma State on the same day,” Ireogbu said. “A week after that, I got Colorado and Arizona on the same day.”
In addition to those four, Iroegbu said he is receiving interest from Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington State, UCLA, USC, and Virginia Tech.
“Not really, I’m just real open about it,” Ireogbu said of whether he has any favorites right now.
The quick lead guard has only taken visits to USC and UCLA and has none others planned right now. He said that Washington State is coming after him the hardest, as his older brother is headed there as a preferred walk-on.
Iroegbu said that his brother’s presences in Pullman will have “a little bit” of an impact on him, but that he will do what he feels is best for him.

A 6-foot-8 class of 2013 power forward out of National Christian Academy (MD), Mike Kobani was one of the hardest playing players at Philly U. A native of Nigeria who came over to the US last August, Kobani has only been playing basketball for three years.
The big man did not know too much about his recruitment at this point, but said he has spoken with coaches from Maryland and Georgetown. Other schools have been in touch with his coach.

Josh Newkirk, a 6-foot-2 class of 2013 point guard out of Word of God Christian Academy (NC), listed offers from Arizona, Indiana, Appalachian State, and North Carolina State. In addition, he is garnering interest from Georgetown, Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Florida State.
The rising junior did not claim any favorites and said it is “probably between UNC and Arizona” for who is coming at him the hardest. Thus far he has taken visits to UNC and NC State and he is planning on taking a trip to Arizona at some point.
North Carolina had a coach in Philadelphia on the first day of the liver period to evaluate Newkirk, who said he grew up a fan of the Tar Heels. Does he think an offer will come from the ACC powerhouse?
“I’m waiting on—coach Roy Williams hasn’t seen me play yet,” Newkirk said of the UNC head coach.
Asked if he would commit on the spot if he did get an offer from North Carolina, Newkirk replied, “I’d probably jump on it on the spot because that is right in my backyard.”

Anton Wilson attended Carman Ainsworth High School in Flint, Mich. last year, but the 6-foot-6 wing is headed to Flora MacDonald Academy (NC) where he will reclassify to 2013. The sharpshooter said he holds offers from Baylor, Central Michigan, Rhode Island, and Cleveland State.
In addition, Wilson is hearing from Michigan, Northern Illinois, Detroit, and Western Michigan. As for his favorite, he said, “Right now [it is] Rhode Island.”
Wilson said that Detroit, Northern Illinois, Rhode Island, and Western Michigan are coming after him the hardest. To date, he has visited Central Michigan, Detroit and Michigan.
As for when he plans to make his commitment, Wilson remarked, “Senior year, like a month before the school season ends.”
