29. Dana Barros: Boston College – (1985-89) Westwood, MA

Four years: 19.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.5 spg, 43.1% 3FG, 83.8% FT

Rookie of the Year (1986)

One of the greatest pure shooters in college basketball history, Barros was a sophomore the first season of the three point shot in college basketball and he used it to help him become one of the most prolific scorers in Big East history.

“One of the two or three best deep shooters in the history of the league,” former Big East play-by-play announcer Mike Gorman tells NBE. “Range virtually unlimited.”

As a freshman, Barros showed his high skill level with 13.7 ppg, 3.5 apg, 2.0 spg, and 79.1% from the line, but it wasn’t until his sophomore season, with the three point shot at his disposal, did Barros begin to turn it on. That season he averaged 18.7 ppg, 3.8 apg, 40.5% from three, and 85.0% from the line. His 91.1% from the line in conference play lead the league. He followed that season with two seasons of pure offense. As a junior, Barros went off for 21.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.3 spg, 85.0% from the line, and an outstanding 45.4% from three point range. As a senior, Barros again was virtually unstoppable as he averaged 23.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.3 apg, 42.9% from three, and 85.7% from the line. Each of his last two seasons ended with the Big East scoring crown.

For his career, Barros totaled 2,293 points. His 1,257 points in conference play is 6th best all-time, his 19.6 ppg is 11th best all-time, and his 430 made field goals is 7th best. One of the best three point shooters in college basketball history, he is 14th all-time in the Big East for made three pointers and 18th all-time in the NCAA with 3.2 made three pointers a game. Both stats are even more impressive when you remember that Barros played his first season without the three point shot and with it, he would have finished much higher on the ladder. On the free throw line, the 85.0% in conference games is 9th best in conference history.

He was drafted 16th overall into the NBA by the Seattle Supersonics and played for four different teams over his 12 year career. A one-time all star, Barros averaged 10.5 ppg in his career and is 37th all-time in the NBA for made three pointers.
