Scouting Reports:
-May 2009: If their is one position that is not found easily around the world it is the big man who can score inside and step outside and hit all the way to 3-point country. I used to compare Mike Shaw’s offensive game to Rasheed Wallace, but now I find it more comparable to Carmelo Anthony. He could probably play the 2 if he really wanted to. Some Fire players look to Shaw to break the press before they look for their guards. He could still stand to play more consistent defense and should probably try to go inside a little more, but he has plenty of time to work on stuff like that (Doug Ferguson at Hensley Memorial Run ‘N Slam).
-July 2008: To keep the Chi-town theme going, we have a young, 6-foot-8 combo forward who is certainly going to be heard from in the coming years. Mike Shaw can run the floor well for a big man, and can catch and finish in transition. He rarely takes a play off and has an abundance of energy. Shaw constantly moves without the ball trying to get open, and can score either facing the goal or with his back to the basket. His shooting form isn’t consistent, though, and he struggles to finish around the rim at times. When driving to the basket, he simply puts his head down and tries to get to the hole – it usually results in a turnover or charging call (Jeff Borzello at Reebok AA Camp).
-April 2008: Mike was the other super freshman prospect. That’s not exactly a bad thing though. This super talent already has great size (6’7) and is very athletic. He handles the ball pretty well. Mike also buried a couple jumpers from the outside for Mac Irvin Fire with many high-major staffers watching. He grabbed several rebounds. He passes pretty well too. Mike is quite the prospect (Brian Crownover at the King James Shooting Stars Classic).
