Now that the National Prep School Invitational has come to close and I’ve had a few days to process all the basketball I watched it’s time to rank the performances from the weekend. Below are player rankings by class based on this past weekend’s performance only. These are not an overall opinion on these players but rather a snapshot based on how they played at Rhode Island College over the weekend. The top spot in 2012 came down to the nation’s two best big men and is a decision I agonized over before finalizing it.

Be sure to check out our daily coverage from a great weekend of hoops at the 2012 National Prep School Invitational:

FINAL KING CITY CLASSIC PLAYER EVALS & UPDATES

July 12, 2010 by · 1 Comment

BY JEFF BORZELLO

CLEVELAND – After a fairly lackluster experience at the LeBron James Skills Academy – aside from the hype of having James there, of course – the 75 or so players from that camp traveled about 40 minutes north to Cleveland State University for two days of tournament-style games. The players, broken into eight teams, competed in two games each before entering the playoffs. It was far easier to evaluate the prospects in the game-setting than it was in the drills and the controlled scrimmages.

While our attention is now squarely on the finals of the Nike Elite Yough Basketball League being played at the Peach Jam in North Augusta (SC), we take our final look back at last week’s King City Classic. Previously, in our King City Classic Update (Part A) we took a look at Big East commits such as Wayne Blackshear, Tyrone Johnson, Michael Carter-Williams and James Price and their performances when we were watching. In King Citty Classic Update (Part B) NBE updated notes on mega-prospect Anthony Davis as he discussed his three finalists, talked with LaQuinton Ross about offers and visits and spent time with Myles Davis as he discusses the new offer from ‘Nova and the impact of friend Tyrone Johnson committing to the Wildcats recently. Desmond Hubert, Myles Mack and Ben McLemore also chat about their recruiting. Earlier today in Part C of our King City Classic Recap we touched base with players such as Rodney Hood, Kedren Johnson, Bernard Silluvan, Cedric McAfee, Jahii Carson, LJ Rose, J-Mychal Reese, Trey McDonald and more.

In this last edition we take a look at Rodney Purvis, DaJuan Coleman, JaKarr Sampson, Nick Faust, Jabarie Hinds, Nick Johnson, jabari Brown, Anrio Adams, Kyle Wiltjer, Deng Leek and recruiting updates from Sam Thompson, Mike Shaw, Josiah Turner, Julian Royal, Alex Poythress, Victor Nickerson, Jelon Hornbeck and many, many more…

GIBBONS TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS DAY ONE RECAP

BY JEFF BORZELLO

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions is annually one of the premier tournaments of the spring. This year, the third session of the NIKE Elite Youth Basketball League in Los Angeles watered-down the competition somewhat, but there was still plenty of prime-time talent in attendance in the gyms at Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State and various local high schools. Things kicked off on Friday with three sessions of games at each of the 17 gyms and six locales.

In our TOC Day One Recruiting Notes we updated the recruitments of J.P. Tokoto, Jeremiah Davis, Cody Zeller, Marshall Plumlee, B.J. Young and more.

Here is a look at some player evals of the top players from the first day and some more recruiting notes…

New prep school in New Jersey will have plenty of high-major prospects next year

by JEFF BORZELLO

Although The Robinson School is still a new entry into the prep scene, head coach and founder Vincent Robinson continues to make an impact with his personnel.

Last Thursday, Robinson picked up high-major prospect Jakari McCallop and former Boston College and Fordham commit Danny Lawhorn. On Wednesday, he garnered commitments from athletic guard Mike John and former Dartmouth commit Kyle Aiken.

Robinson is confident in his ability to get The Robinson School to compete with the top prep schools in the country within a few months.
