The 6’2” shooting guard from legendary St. Anthony’s HS proved to be one of the best pure scorers in conference history.

After an impressive freshman season that saw him average 16.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 39.0% from three, and 79.7% from the line, Dehere took it up a notch as a sophomore with 19.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.3 spg, 42.9% from three point range, and 83.8% from the free throw line. As a junior, Dehere was just as deadly as he averaged 19.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.2 spg, and 83.0% from the field. As a senior, Dehere was never more dominant, earning Player of the Year and All-American honors. During that season, Dehere averaged 22.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.7 apg, and 1.2 spg, while shooting 39.6% from three point range and 81.8% from the free throw line.

With Dehere on the Pirate roster, Seton Hall surprised many by winning the Big East Tournament title and reaching the 1991 NCAA Elite 8 in his sophomore season. Dehere was named to the 1st team All-Big East team that year and followed it up by leading the Pirates to the regular season title in the ’91-’92 and ’92-’93 seasons, winning another Big East Tournament title in 1993 and earning 1st-team all-league honors both years, including the Player of the Year honor and conference tournament MVP in ’92-’93.

For his career, he totaled 2,397 points, second most for any Big East player, behind only Troy Bell. His 1,320 Big East points are 3rd most all-time, while he finished his career 6th in three point field goals made and 7th in free throws made. One of only four players, along with Troy Bell, Mike Sweetney, and Allen Iverson, that scored 35 or more points three times in Big East play.

He was taken by the Los Angeles Clippers with the 13th overall pick and played six seasons in the NBA, averaging 8.0 ppg. He is currently a politician in his native New Jersey.
