50) GERRY MCNAMARA
50. Gerry McNamara: Syracuse – (2002-06) Scranton, PA
Four years: 15.5 ppg, 4.8 apg, 1.9 spg, 88.8 FT%, 35.4 3FG%
Possibly the most beloved player in the history of the great Syracuse program, the 6’2” McNamara didn’t take long to show the ice he had flowing throwing his veins.
As a freshman, McNamara averaged 13.4 ppg while shooting 90.1% from the line and 40.1% from three point land. In conference play he made 53 of 55 free throws, good for 96.4%, a current conference record. He showed his quick hands with 2.2 spg. He was most impressive in the Orange’s national championship run that season when in the first half, McNamara set the stage for the win by making six three point shots, tying an NCAA record.
Despite a few highly publicized media comments that he was overrated and criticism that he attempted too many three point shots, McNamara also could get hot like few other college players ever could. Throw in his quiet leadership, composure, and all out hustle and McNamara proved to be one of the best players in the history of the league.
He finished with 2,099 points and is currently tops in conference history with a incredible 91.7% from the free throw line in league play. His 400 career three pointers is 6th most in NCAA history and 2nd in the Big East. He is also 19th in steals for conference play. McNamara has not played in the NBA and last season played professionally in Latvia
