IN our first recruiting notebook we take a look at the latest from

Stephen Zimmerman has made a big splash all spring on the AAU circuit and he is definitely one of the must sees this week at UVA. The 7-foot junior (Class fo 2015) out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas (NV) showed why he is so highly thought of as he is a long athlete with a good build for rising junior big man and has the frame to grow into a physically solid big man in the future. He is not a plodding big man and showed the ability to move around the court well and already has a good sense of positioning around the court at both ends of the floor.

No visits are currently planned and Zimmerman shared with NBE that his parents are handling the vast majority of his recruitment. He did mention he is talking to past National Championship finalist MICHIGAN a lot.

“They’re a great school and they have a great history…and a great coaching staff,” Zimmerman said of the John Beilein’s Wolverine program.

Zimmerman paid a lot of attention to UM during their impressive NCAA Tournament run.

“The main thing I was watching [during the title game] was how they were using Mitch McGary, being a big man I got to see how it goes,” he said. “They used the same play that my AAU team uses and I was seeing how he does it.”

While early in his recruitment and not going into a whole lot of detail, Zimmerman did mention NOTRE DAME as another program on his mind recently.

“Notre Dame’s also an amazing school,” said Zimmerman. “One of my close friends that’s a football player [Ronnie Stanley] committed to Notre Dame and I’m going to be talking to him to see how the school is and everything.”

Zimmerman mentioned to NBE that he would like to become a more physical player in the future.

Malachi Richardson, another of the top prospects from the class of 2015, spent some time with NBE to go over the schools spending the most time with him on his recruitment.

“I’d have to say INDIANA, FLORIDA, GEORGETOWN, UCONN….I keep in touch with them more than [others],” he said.

The New Jersey native who runs with Team Final on the AAU scene talked additionally about INDIANA, where he hopes to visit soon.

“It’s a great school. I plan to get on campus soon to see the campus,” he said of the Hoosiers. “They have a great coaching staff. Coach Crean is a great coach who produces great players.”

Richardson also mentioned he is impressed with IU from the academic side as well.

Leron Black, the Team Thad AAU standout and Memphis (TN) - White Station High School star is open again in his recruitment after an early spring de-commitment from BAYLOR. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward enjoys the open style game. While many believe his bread and butter is in the high post and attacking the rim, Black is working to show his potential at the wing.

“I’m a good slasher. I can rebound…I’m versatile,” said Balck. I can post up, I can come up and grab off the wing and I can knock down shots.

On Thursday Black looked to be at his best physically attacking the rim and battling n the boards.

Black mentioned INDIANA, ILLINOIS, FLORIDA, UCONN and “probably OHIO STATE” as the schools recruiting him the hardest with BAYLOR, GEORGIA TECH, NORTH CAROLINA STATE, LOUISVILLE and UCLA as others he is considering at this time.

Myles Turner, 6-foot-11 big man from Texas Select on the AAU circuit is a 2014 big man in high demand. Looking to cut his list next month to 10 schools, Turner mentioned two on Thursday he is looking to check out soon.

“[My} newest offer is probably ARIZONA, I’m looking to take an unofficial there," said Turner. "I think I want to get back up to Oklahoma State as well."

Turner mentioned that DUKE has intrest and KENTUCKY has reached out to express interest.

"My dad actually just talked to Coach Calipari," said Turner. "They're going to step up their recruitment process and they’re looking to see me this July."

The Wildcats have certainly got the attention of Turner.

It’s a great team, a great team," he said. "They way Coach Calipari has things running there...it’s unbelievable."
--------------------------------

Reid Travis, a 6-foot-7 forward from Minneapolis (MN) and the Howard Pulley AAU program talked about the new ACC conference and his interest in a future member of the conference in hoops.

"I think it’s going to be a great conference, especially all these teams they're adding," he said.

While Travis did not mention a recruiting list, as it has been reported to be a lengthy list, he did talk about one school in particular.

“I’m definitely interested in NOTRE DAME," he said. "That’s one that I’m going to have to put on there. I talk to their coaching staff a lot and I really like the way they do things over there and their style of play and the academics. I just think they have the full total plackage."

While he has yet to visit the Irish campus, he hopes to before the summer is over.

No, I want to [visit] though,” he said. “I’m trying to get a visit set up sometime in August or September and I’m definitely trying to get on campus.”

Long an NBE favorite, 2014 forward Devin Robinson continues to explode this spring and show the rest of the country what we have seen in him for more than a year now. On Thursday the 6-foot-8 wing rattled off a lengthy school list that included TEXAS, MIAMI, KANSAS, INDIANA, CONNECTICT, GEORGETOWN, FLORIDA STATE, RUTGERS, BOSTON, XAVIER, CINCINNATI, LOUISVILLE, NOTRE DAME, OKLAHOMA STATE and more are coming on regularly.
