RED-HOT KAMERON WILLIAMS PICKING UP INTEREST

HAMPTON, Va. — There were not many players from last weekend’s Nike EYBL Session #1 more impressive than Kameron Williams. A 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooting guard out of Mount St. Joseph (MD), Williams entered this weekend’s EYBL session in Virginia with a bit of a raised profile.

Although he did not have a huge game in a loss to Spiece on Friday night, Williams did knock down some 3-pointers, which is the forte of his game. After the contest, Williams took the time to speak with NBE Sports about his recruitment.

The rising senior said he holds offers from Miami, Wake Forest, Drexel, Dayton, VCU, and the former Virginia Tech staff. Additionally, Williams is garnering interest from Oklahoma State, Providence, Michigan State, Michigan, Richmond, and some from Maryland.

“Not right now,” Williams said of whether he has any favorites.

As for which schools are recruiting him the hardest, Williams listed Wake Forest, Miami, Richmond, Drexel, VCU, and Dayton.

Williams said that VCU‘s Shaka Smart, Miami‘s Jim Larranaga and Wake Forest‘s Jeff Bzdelik are the three coaches with whom he has developed the strongest relationship.

“I’d just say a place that will make me work hard, bring out the best in me, never be content with myself,” Williams said of what he is looking for in a school, adding, “Motion offense . . . Run ‘n’ gun.”

As for location, Williams said it will be “a little bit, but not too much” of a factor. He added, “It would be nice to get three or four hours from home.”

Williams also talked about when he plans to make his college decision.

“I’ve been thinking end of summer, but a lot of people have been trying to persuade me to wait until the late signing period,” he said.

Williams has interest and offers from schools in the CAA, Atlantic-10, ACC, and Big East. Will conference affiliation be a factor for him, or is it more about the individual school?

“I would say the schools themselves,” Williams said. “Obviously would be pretty good to play in the ACC, one of the best conferences [and with the ACC and Big East TV networks, it would ] be great for my family to watch.”

Right now, Williams is clearly a two-guard, but he is hoping to develop into a player who can be more than just that.

“I think I need to work on my point guard skills, but I [want to become a] combo guard,” Williams said.

There is another of aspect of his game that Williams is working to develop during this AAU season.

“Definitely the defensive end [for] at the next level when I have to keep up with . . . quick guys,” Williams said.
