Now that the National Prep School Invitational has come to close and I’ve had a few days to process all the basketball I watched it’s time to rank the performances from the weekend. Below are player rankings by class based on this past weekend’s performance only. These are not an overall opinion on these players but rather a snapshot based on how they played at Rhode Island College over the weekend. The top spot in 2012 came down to the nation’s two best big men and is a decision I agonized over before finalizing it.

Be sure to check out our daily coverage from a great weekend of hoops at the 2012 National Prep School Invitational:

Top 2012 Players:

1) Nerlens Noel (Tilton 2012) – More than just the best shot blocker in the 2012 class, Noel is the best shot blocker to come through the prep ranks in many, many years.

Nerlens Noel earned the weekend's top spot for his performance at the 2012 NPSI.

Providence fans packed the gym to see him as they made the cut of his seven final schools along with Kentucky, Syracuse, Connecticut, Florida, Georgetown and North Carolina. The recruitment of Noel will certainly heat up quickly now that he plans to jump back into the Class of 2012. Unofficial visits will be coming shortly to Providence, Kentucky and Syracuse.

2) Steven Adams (Notre Dame Prep) – committed to Pittsburgh – Believe the hype. Steve Adams is for real.
—————————-

3) Jakarr Sampson (Brewster Academy 2012) – A super athletic combo forward, Sampson’s increased productivity with his mid range jump shot is taking his game to the next level.

After not qualifying at St. John’s this season Sampson is taking his time with his decision the 2nd time around. The Johnnies are still involved along with Providence, Kansas, Louisville, Baylor and Pittsburgh.
—————————-

4) Olivier Hanlon (New Hampton Prep) – committed to Boston College – Navigating ball screens with stunning effectiveness, Hanlon consistently turned the corner and wrecked havoc in the paint.
——————————

5) Aaron Ross (St John’s Northwest Military Academy 2012) – Ross scored the ball both inside and out showing 3 point range while also doing the dirty work in the paint and subsequently living at the free throw line.

In his recruitment, Ross is open after previously being committed to Arkansas. The Razorbacks remain on his list along with Washington, Providence, Mississippi, Dayton, Xavier, Florida, Baylor and Virginia.
—————————-

6) Myles Davis (Notre Dame Prep 2012) – committed to Xavier – Well known as one of 2012’s premier long range shooters, Davis showed that his game is far from one dimensional by attacking the basket and playing terrific defense.
—————————-

7) Markus Crider (Bridgton Academy 2012) – Forced to play inside for an undersized Bridgton team, Crider did a great job of exploiting mismatches by taking bigger opponents off the dribble and finishing through contact at the rim.

Once committed to Providence under the Keno Davis regime, Crider decided on a post grad year to try and get his ACT score up in order to get in to Northwestern. They remain his favorite and he plans to visit in the spring. Other schools involved include Georgia State, Georgia Tech, George Mason, and St Bonaventure among others he couldn’t remember.
—————————-

8] Zach Auguste (New Hampton Prep 2012) – committed to Notre Dame – The athletic 6’9” big man showed more of a willingness to be physical than I’ve seen in the past tallying 19 rebounds in one contest.
—————————-

9) Darrick Wood (Bridgton Academy 2012) – Wood’s performance levels fluctuated throughout the weekend but at his best he buried perimeter jumpers and made explosive above the rim finishes in transition.

The former St. John’s commit still cites St. John’s as the leader in his recruitment but is also mulling offers from Connecticut, Washington, Texas, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Maryland, Georgetown and Providence.
—————————

10) Ricardo Ledo (South Kent Prep 2012) – committed to Providence – Ledo struggled with his outside shot in both of his games but rebounded at a very high level and showed off his elite passing skills to set up teammates.
———————————- —————————————————

Top 2013 Players:

1) Goodluck Okonoboh (Tilton 2013) – Okonoboh was more aggressive on offense than I’ve ever seen and seemed more comfortable putting the ball on the floor to make plays.
—————————-

2) Rene Castro (Worcester Academy 2013) – – A point guard on the summer circuit and down the road, Castro plays primarily off the ball for Worcester because they need his scoring and was extremely effective racking up 69 points in 2 games.

Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Umass and Northeastern have offered Castro. He has also received new interest from Temple but they have yet to offer.
—————————-

3) Dominic Woodson (Vermont Academy 2013) – Based on physical talent Woodson would be first on this list but until he figures out the mental side of the game he will not reach his pro level potential.

Woodson holds countless offers from the highest levels but chose only to mention UConn, Louisville, Baylor, and Oklahoma as those most involved.
—————————

4) Andrew Chrabascz (Cushing Academy 2013) – A below the rim big man with great footwork, Chrabascz dominated in both his games showing off a refined post game and finishing with both hands.

Chrabascz is still in the early stages of his decision making process as he told NBE over the weekend he holds 16 offers and interest from over 50 schools. When pressed he mentioned offers from Creighton, Lehigh, Vermont, Canisius and St. Bonaventure. He also stated that other schools in the CAA and the Atlantic 10 are on him.
—————————-

5) Donnele Munda (Vermont Academy) – Munda is an elite long range shooter who needs very little time or space to get off his picture perfect jump shot.

From Toronto, Munda holds an offer from Loyola (MD) along with interest from Quinnipiac, Northeastern, Siena, Niagara, Northwestern and Western Carolina. He is hoping to play his way into better offers over the summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with CIA Bounce.
—————————-

6) Jaylen Brantley (Wilbraham and Monson 2013) – The diminutive floor general enhanced his growing legacy as one of the country’s best clutch performers winning a game for his team with a 25 foot running shot at the buzzer.

Brantley listed offers from Syracuse, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Richmond, Rhode Island, Iowa State, Missouri, Georgia and Rutgers as well as interest from UConn and Maryland.
—————————-

7) Jalen Myrie (Lawrence Academy) – Myrie is a 6’1” lead guard whose perimeter shot making and open court play making kept his Lawrence Academy team in striking distance against a powerful Northfield Mt Hermon team.

Still in the early stages of the recruiting process Myrie is currently receiving interest from Robert Morris, Boston University, Quinnipiac, Siena, Army and Bucknell.
—————————-

8] Jamel Artis (Vermont Academy 2013) – Artis didn’t have his best weekend but the 6’6” wing still showed flashes off the power driving and high level passing that he is capable of.

Artis has yet to be offered by any of his major suitors which include Providence, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Miami, and Florida.
—————————-

9) Kiefer Douse (Lee Academy) – A 6’3” long and lean point guard, Douse is excellent driving to his left and finishing on scoop shots or pull-ups in the paint.
—————————-

10) Daquan McNeil (Vermont Academy) – As was the theme for his Vermont Academy team, McNeil didn’t have his best weekend but his athleticism and quickness as a 6’2” combo guard are undeniable.
————————————————————————————-

2014 Top Players:

1) Kaleb Joseph (Cushing Academy) – Just starting to become a national name, Joseph had a coming out party of sorts flashing his high level athleticism and a great basketball IQ as a 6’2” point guard.

Joseph already hold offers from Providence, Boston College, Maryland, TCU and Tennessee along with interest from Connecticut and Wake Forest.
—————————-

2) Noah Vonleh (New Hampton 2014) – While not the dominant effort he put forth at the National Prep Showcase in November, Vonleh did rebound at a high level and make a sampling of offensive plays that speak to his long term potential.

Vonleh listed offers from Georgetown, Kansas, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Boston College, and “a bunch of others” as well as heavy interest from Kentucky and North Carolina.
——————————

3) Matt Cimino (Worcester Academy 2014) – The 6’9” big man showed a developing skill set that projects him as a mid to high major pick and pop 4 man down the road.
—————————-

4) Idris Taqqee (Cushing Academy) – An unknown name to me coming in, Taqqee stands 6’3” and showed off a well rounded offensive game that has the makings of a high major shooting guard in the future.
—————————-

5) Henry Bolton (St Andrew’s) – Bolton is in the process of learning to play the point after being a scorer growing up but the 6’1” athletic guard has the tools to eventually play high major basketball.
