St. Raymond 68 Paul VI 61
Daniel Dingle (Temple)
Brought it early and often and it was needed with his teammate Kkereuwem Okoro suffering with an intestinal ailment. Dingle finished at the rim and stretched the defense out in spots (he was 1-2 from deep). Dingle played with a high motor that allowed him to grab 4 offensive rebounds and go to the line 13 times (he made 8). In 25 minutes the future A-10 product finished with a workmen-like 21 points and 15 rebounds. Dingle handles the ball well for his size of 6’7″ and had several and 1 opportunities throughout the game while always coming up with a basket when St. Rays needed one. Passed out of post on one possession, followed the play and got position for offensive rebound, then snatched rebound and got to line and hit both tries.
Nkereuwem Okoro (Iowa State)
As stated previously Okoro was ailing but battled through his illness and in the fourth quarter made two or three big-time plays to help his team win. Okoro finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds on a day when he was clearly not feeling well. Okoro’s size makes him a definite matchup problem as a power guard at the next level.
Shane Rector
Rector is a 2013 guard with some game. He’s coming off an ankle injury and hasn’t been able to show how explosive he is. According to his coach Oliver Antigua, Rector is his best athlete by far. Rector has offers from a lot of mid-majors (most of the MAAC) and is getting some high major looks. He finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds and 3 assists although he turned it over as well (5). Time will tell if he’s better than a mid-major player. Had a nice drive through traffic for a bucket and also ran the break well, making a really nice bounce pass in transition for a bucket. Generally in control at all times.
Kayvon Williams
Williams was the breakout performer here — the 2014 guard scored efficiently (6-8 from the field, 2-3 from deep) for 14 points in 15 minutes of playing time. Williams moves well for a young guard and was obviously not afraid to take and make shots with Okoro battling his bug. Williams is a both a future D-1 player and a future star at St Raymond. Time will tell how bright his star shines but on this day he answered the call when his team needed him and will be someone worth keeping an eye on in the future. Used rim as screener on one drive which he finished with a vet-like reverse. Shot is on target but starts at the chin.
Paul VI
It was with great disappointment that we took the news that Paul VI was without the services of one of their most highly thought of players and prospects Stanford Robinson but the Panthers still brought a lot of skill to the court against St Raymond.
Patrick Holloway is their 2012 guard who’s committed to George Mason. Holloway is a smooth player who can not only make three’s but also create for himself and his teammates. Holloway’s stroke was a bit off in this game but like any good shooter he continued to pull — and his team needed him to. Holloway finished with 16 points to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Holloway attacked enough to get to the line six times. His shot was just a bit off although his stroke is pure. Holloway shot 5-18 and 2-10 from deep, with a lot of those 3′s coming in the final quarter while trying to keep his team in the game. Holloway should be a good fit at GMU and was Paul Hewitt’s first commit.
Jamal Robinson 6’5 wing 2013
Robinson was kind of all over the place throughout the game. He didn’t shoot great (3-9) but he definitely had a positive impact for his team with his slashing, passing, rebounding and defense. Robinson finished with 8 points 12 rebounds and 4 assists while only turning it over one time. Robinson is pretty long and athletic and at this point could be a glue guy/defensive stopper at the mid-major level. Impacts the game in a number of different ways and a solid player who could get a lot better over the next year. Battles and isn’t averse to getting dirty at 205 pounds. One sweet move was a hesitation dribble then blow-by from the wing which he failed to finish but got fouled on.
Coleman Johnson is a 2012 Fairfield commit who has the same build as Robinson -Johnson goes 6’6 and about 210. Johnson was very effective throughout the game, making offensive plays in a number of ways. Johnson shot 6-9 from the field to finish with 16 points while also blocking 3 shots. Should be a very good fit at Fairfield and contribute for 4 years. Would’ve liked to see him rebound the ball better but his ability and motor were both impressive in this contest.
Tilman Dunbar runs the show for Paul VI and does it quite well. The 5’9 point is a 2012 kid who’s probably on the cusp between D-1 and D-2. I would think he could run the point at any number of low majors. Dunbar has a good burst and shares the ball well, he’s especially effective in the open court finding his finishers. Dunbar finished with a more than adequate stat line of 9 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds and 2 steals. He needs to develop an outside shot from the looks of things. Goes hard right to the rim on everything. Needs to mix in some left.
