SHABAZZ MUHAMMAD RECRUITING UPDATE

No surprise, top prospect in 2012 class hears from nation’s elite at first chance

One of the biggest bits of news in the class of 2012 yesterday surrounded Shabazz Muhammad, one of the top players in the country. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Bishop Gorman (Nev.) picked up an offer from North Carolina, adding the Tar Heels to a long list that includes Texas, Kansas, UNLV, UCLA, Louisville, Georgetown, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, Duke, Memphis, Oklahoma and USC.

“It was cool, just talking to Coach Williams about how things are going, then he just said he would like to offer me,” Muhammad said.

Muhammad said that, outside of Kansas and USC, every school that has offered him made contact with him on Tuesday. “Everybody that I’m interested in has offered,” he said.

He also said that two schools are standing out in terms of recruiting him the hardest at this point. “Duke is starting to call a lot,” he said, “but Memphis been calling the most right now.”

Despite that, Muhammad has no favorites. “I’m wide-open at this point,” he said.
