NEW YORK, N.Y. - One of the earlier commits from the 2010 class giving Syracuse his word before his sophomore season, Philadelphia native Dion Waiters was deemed a top scorer since young. Throughout his career at Life Center (N.J.) and on the circuit with Team Final, he kept up that reputation to earn himself a spot in the annual Jordan Brand Classic. Waiters’ senior send-off took place this past weekend at Madison Square Garden and he sat down at practice earlier in the week for a quick Q&A with NBE.

-Earliest Memory of Jordan Brand Classic?

When Tyreke Evans played. I was in 10th grade.

-Memory of Getting Invited?

Just happy because I was supposed to make the McDonald’s game. It added more fuel to the fire.

-Signature Game from High School?

When I had 34 against Our Savior at Prime Time.

-Focus With Workouts Right Now?

Getting my core stronger. I want to lose 10 pounds before college.

-Last Thing That Impressed You?

Hearing about Michael Jordan’s work ethic. He always wanted to prove to himself that where he was at wasn’t as good as he could be. Him and Kobe, they work really hard.

-Reason for Motivation?

McDonald’s game and seeing what Syracuse did this year.

-Who To Look Out For in 2011?

Michael Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, Austin Rivers, Rakeem Christmas, Trevor Cooney.

-Thoughts on Trevor Cooney (Team Final teammate and fellow Syracuse commit)?

He’s a real hard worker and he can really shoot it. Just a very cool guy.
