UPDATED BIG EAST RPI RATINGS

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

We have updated the in-conference RPI Ratings for the Big East through last night’s game. We use the NCAA calculation for RPI and SOS to determine these ratings, even using the weighted formula for home and road wins (and losses).

If the Big East had a true balanced schedule, everyone’s SOS would be .5000. So, the closer to .5000 your SOS is, the closer to a balanced schedule you played. The greater distance you are from .5000 shows how tilted your schedule is from balanced, whether easier (less than .5000) or harder.

Georgetown has faced the easiest to date, and their game with Louisville will help bump both their SOS ratings, but they will both likely be on the lower third of conference schedules.

So far this year, the home teams have won at a 63% clip.

Here is the in-conference Big East RPI table:

Team W L Conf. RPI Conf. SOS SOS Rank
Notre Dame 12 4 .5924 .5191 1
Georgetown 14 3 .5787 .4782 16
Connecticut 12 4 .5700 .5007 9
Louisville 14 3 .5688 .4799 15
Marquette 11 6 .5506 .5163 2
Pittsburgh 9 8 .5176 .5071 6
West Virginia 10 7 .5081 .4802 14
Cincinnati 8 8 .5016 .5021 8
Villanova 7 9 .4921 .5139 4
Seton Hall 7 9 .4888 .4990 10
Syracuse 7 9 .4789 .4963 11
Providence 5 11 .4586 .5050 7
St. John’s 5 11 .4581 .5099 5
DePaul 5 11 .4380 .4961 12
Rutgers 2 15 .4152 .5153 3
South Florida 3 13 .4054 .4836 13

BIG EAST NEWS & NOTES (2/29/2008)

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Louisville wins against Notre Dame, yet, it seems most people are talking about the growing legend of Luke Harangody today!

St. John’s has made a decision on Norm Roberts and are getting it out of the way early…

The NCAA Tournament selection process is heavy on the minds of Big East coaches, especially in light of a 10-6 conference team being left out last season. If that is not stressful enough, with trying to qualify for the Big East tournament adding to the pressure for some schools, maybe the pressure got to the Seton Hall staff, that is what ‘sources’ are telling FoxSports.com’s Jeff Goodman.

UPDATED BIG EAST CONFERENCE RPI RATINGS

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Wednesday’s games are in the books and we have updated the conference RPI ratings to reflect the action in the Big East through the games of 2/27/208. The RPI calculation follows the standard calculation used by the NCAA, including the weighting of Road wins as 1.3 and home wins as .7. However, we only included results from Big East games in our calculations, figuring the true conference RPI for each Big East team.

The strength of schedule calculation also follows the NCAA formula. According to RealtimeRPI.com, the Big East has six teams in the top 25 of the overall NCAA RPI Ratings. Those teams are:

  • 10) Georgetown
  • 11) Connecticut
  • 12) Louisville
  • 15) Marquette
  • 21) Notre Dame
  • 25) Pittsburgh

Click below to see our Big East Conference RPI Ratings and some notes and observations on those figures:
