There have not been many high-major commitments of late, but there has still been a fair amount of news in the high school hoops world lately. In addition, one of the nation’s top prospects is set to announce his choice today.

First off, Jabari Parker is set to announce his college choice today on ESPNU, as originally reported by Joe Henrickson of the Chicago Sun-Times. Parker is a 6-foot-8 small forward out of Simeon (IL) who is ranked No. 3 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125. KSL.com’s Greg Wrubell quoted Jabari’s father, Sonny Parker, as saying, “I think it will probably be between Duke and Michigan State.”

Samford landed a commitment from Jordan Capps, per Scout.com’s Evan Daniels. Capps is a class of 2013 small forward prospect from Peachtree Ridge (GA) who has some solid size at 6-foot-6.

St. Peter’s dipped into the JuCo ranks for a 2013 commitment, according to Brad Winton of JuCoRecruiting.com. He reported that the Peacocks landed Tyler Gaskins, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Lawson State Community College (AL).

According to Eric Hampford of Future 150, Loyola Marymount landed a pledge from Evan Payne of Kingdom Prep (GA). Payne is a 6-foot-2 class of 2013 point guard who appears to be originally from Ohio.

According to Marcus Helton of DMVelite.com, former Cornell-commit Tim Higgins is now going to attend Division III program MIT. Higgins is a 6-foot-10 class of 2013 center from Paul VI (VA) and is a big-time pickup for MIT.

Romelo Trimble of Bishop O’Connell (VA) committed to Maryland, per Testudo Times. Trimble is a 6-foot-2 point guard in the class of 2014 who is amongst the better players at his position.

Michael Finke of Centennial (IL) tweeted his commitment to Illinois. Finke is a 6-foot-9 power forward in the class of 2014 who attends high school in the same town as the college, Champaign, Ill.

Corey Albertson of Rivals.com looks to have been the first to report that Dakari Johnson of Montverde Academy (FL) is down to a final three of Georgetown, Kentucky and Syracuse. Johnson is a 6-foot-10 center who was ranked No. 3 in the NBE Sports Class of 2014 Post-July Top 75, but he has since reclassified to 2013 and will head to college next year.

Kendall Smith, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Deer Valley (CA), also has a final three, per Coast 2 Coast Hoops. They have reported that the class of 2013 prospect is down to UCLAConnecticut and UNLV.

Kameron Rooks will declare between Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, and Washington at some point before Christmas, per ESPN.com’s Joel Francisco. Rooks is a 7-foot class of 2013 center from Mission Hills (CA).

Solomon Poole, who was ranked No. 30 in the NBE Sports 2013 Top 125, has enrolled early at Georgia Tech. Poole is a 6-foot point guard out of North Florida Educational Institute (FL). He scored two points in six minutes on Monday against Alabama State in his college debut, per the Georgia Tech athletics website.

Justin Byerly reported that class of 2014 prospect JaQuel Richmond will announce his college choice on January 16th, which is his birthday. Richmond is a talented 6-foot-1 point guard out of Wesleyan Christian Academy (NC).

Maryland-bound Roddy Peters is having season-ending shoulder surgery tomorrow, per ESPN.com’s Reggie Rankin. Peters is a 6-foot-4 point guard from Suitland (MD) who is coming off a great summer.

Alex Bozich of Inside the Hall reported that Collin Hartman was having surgery on his left wrist on Tuesday and would miss two to three weeks. Hartman is a 6-foot-6 small forward from Cathedral (IN) who has committed to the Indiana Hoosiers.

Elite sophomore Elijah Thomas is transferring from Rockwall (TX) to Prime Prep (TX), per Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop. Thomas is a 6-foot-9 power forward who is ranked No. 6 in the NBE Sports Class of 2015 Post-July Top 25.

Syracuse-commit Chris McCullough of Brewster Academy (NH) would like to reclassify to 2013, per NBC Sports’ Terrence Payne. McCullough, a 6-foot-9 power forward, is ranked No. 22 in the NBE Sports 2014 Top 75.
