RECRUITING NOTEBOOK (11/26/2012): CLOSING OUT EARLY SIGNING PERIOD COMMITMENTS

Signing week is now in the books, but a number of other 2013 players made their college commitments since our last Recruiting Notebook on Monday. Some popped before the signing period ended and some after it.
The best senior to come off the board in the past few days is Brandon Austin of Imhotep Charter (PA). Austin is a 6-foot-6 point guard/small forward and he is now a future Providence Friar, per his Twitter account.
A long, versatile player with an impressive skill set, Austin was at one point committed to Penn State. Ranked No. 47 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125, Austin picked the Friars over Texas and UConn.
Manhattan got an incredibly huge coup in landing JUCO stud Chris Thomas of Chipola College (FL). The news was broken by Scout.com’s Evan Daniels. Thomas is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who was at one point ranked amongst the top 10 players in high school in the class of 2012 before opting to take a unique route and enrolling at a junior college.
Thomas was previously committed to Xavier before reopening his recruitment. He has a chance to be a special player for the Jaspers in the MAAC. Manhattan also landed 6-foot point guard Tyler Wilson of Cardinal Hayes (NY), per Dylan Butler of MSG Varsity, and 6-foot-9 center Carlton Allen of Life Center Academy (NJ), per Dylan Butler of The Journal News.
Soma Edo of Berkner (TX) popped to Fresno State, in news first reported by D/FW Metroplex Hoops. Edo is considered maybe the most athletic player in the nation in the class of 2013. He is ranked as the No. 87 player in the NBE Sports 2013 Top 125.
Vincent Hunter, a 6-foot-8 small forward form Consortium Prep (MI), tweeted that he has committed to UTEP. The long wing is a superb pickup for Tim Floyd and Co. According to the @Miner_Nation Twitter handle, UTEP also landed JUCO prospect Jacob Thomas. He is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Howard College (TX).
Brandon Randolph of Inglewood (CA) sent out a tweet confirming his commitment to Xavier. He is a 6-foot-2 point guard who was at one point committed to Pepperdine.
The Las Vegas Sun had the news that Julian Jacobs was headed to USC. Jacobs is a 6-foot-3 point guard from Desert Pines (NV) who at one point was committed to another Pac-12 school, Utah.
OwlScoop.com looks to have broken the news that DeAndre Bembry of The Patrick School (NJ) has pledged to St. Joe’s. The athletic 6-foot-6 combo forward is a native of North Carolina who came to the Garden State last year.
Presbyterian got a big-time commitment, as 6-foot-3 shooting guard Reggie Dillard selected the Blue Hose, per Justin Byerly. Dillard is a tough backcourt player who a nice overall game who attends Greensboro Day (NC).
Jim Hicks of RCS Sports tweeted that, per Herb Baker, Tavario Miller was headed to Texas A&M. Miller is a 6-foot-8 power forward from Wheatley (TX).
Sean Obi made a commitment to Rice, per Tom Renner of The Daily Voice. Obi is a 6-foot-9 center who attends Green Farms Academy (CT).
Rashad Richardson of Kiski Prep (PA) blew up at the National Prep Showcase this weekend. Now, according to Nathan Baird of the Lafayette Journal & Courier, he has decommitted from IPFW. Richardson is a 6-foot-4 small forward.
Moving onto the class of 2014 . . . Jae’sean Tate of Pickerington Central (OH) made a verbal commitment to the in-state Ohio State Buckeyes, per Scout.com’s Brian Snow. Tate is a 6-foot-4 small forward who checks in at No. 29 in the NBE Sports Class of 2014 Post-July Top 75.
Clayton Custer of Blue Valley Northwest (KS) popped to Iowa State, per Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop. Custer is a 6-foot point guard and he is ranked as the No. 70 player in the NBE Sports 2014 Top 75.
According to a source, Amir Bell of East Brunswick (NJ) gave an early pledge to Princeton. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard selected the Tigers over offers from schools such as Fairfield, Iona and Northeastern.
