We only had one Recruiting Notebook last week, so there is a lot to get through in this one. Thus, we’re going to go with a bit more of a quick, rapid fire style this time.
First off, Baylor picked up a pledge from 6-foot-9 center Dominic Woodson of Huntington Prep (WV), according to Scout.com’s Evan Daniels. The big man is ranked No. 37 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125 and is the second top-40 prospect to pop for Baylor in three weeks. Woodson’s other finalist was North Carolina State.
Earlier today Austin Nichols tweeted he had committed to Memphis. Nichols, ranked #75 in the NBE rankings, is another major in-state coup for Josh Pastner and the Tigers over in-state rival Tennessee.
LSU landed a big-time commitment from Jarrell Martin of Madison Prep Academy (LA), per Ben Love of Tiger Sports Digest. The 6-foot-8 power forward is ranked No. 66 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125. He is the third player in the top 75 to pledge to LSU in this class.
ESPN.com’s Reggie Rankin had the news that Jajuan Johnson of Southwind (TN) had selected Marquette. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard is ranked No. 63 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125 and joins two other top-75 ranked prospects in Marquette’s class. Johnson chose Marquette over Alabama and Miami.
West Virginia added to its impressive frontcourt haul by landing 6-foot-8 power forward Devin Williams of Montverde Academy (FL). Corey Albertson of the Rivals.com network had the news of Williams’ commitment. The Ohio native is ranked No. 74 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125.
Ron Patterson, who originally signed with Indiana in the 2012 class, is now a part of Syracuse’s 2013 group. Evan Daniels had the news that the 6-foot-3 shooting guard, who is spending a post-grad year at Brewster Academy (NH), had picked the Orange.
Highly-regarded 6-foot-11 junior college center Yanick Moreira pledged to SMU, also according to Evan Daniels. The 2013 prospect attends South Plains College (TX).
Tanner Lancona, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Tesoro (CA), is off the board to Washington State. Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop had the news of the 2013 recruit’s decision.
UNC-Wilmington added a potential impact player in the form of Chuck Ogbodo, a class of 2013 prospect. ESPN.com’s Dave Telep reported that the 6-foot-10 center out of High Point Christian Academy (NC) had made his decision.
Matt Howard of AC Flora (SC) could also have a major impact as his college destination, which is Penn. The 6-foot-4 class of 2013 shooting guard tweeted his commitment to the Quakers.
Dan McDonald of GAVarsity.com broke the news that UAB had landed a pledge from 2013 recruit Tosin Mehinti. The newest Blazer is a 6-foot-9 center out of Greenforest McCalep Christian Academy (GA).
Michael O’Brien of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Duke took the lead in the Jabari Parker sweepstakes after his visit to the school. Parker, a 6-foot-8 small forward from Simeon (IL), is ranked No. 3 in the NBE Sports 2013 Top 125.
BeeJay Anya looks to be headed to North Carolina State. The 6-foot-8 center from DeMatha (MD) had trimmed his list to North Carolina State and Indiana, but Evan Daniels reported that Indiana pulled out of his recruitment. Anya, who will announce on November 16th according to Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com, is ranked No. 21 in the NBE Sports 2013 Top 125.
Dave Telep reported that Kennedy Meeks has a top two of Georgetown and North Carolina. Meeks is a 6-foot-9 center from West Charlotte (NC) who is ranked No. 34 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125.
Jordan Bell also cut his list down to two schools, per the Compton Magic Twitter feed. The 6-foot-6 power forward from Long Beach Poly (CA) is still considering Auburn and Oregon. He checks in at No. 78 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125.
Nigel Hayes, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Whitmer (OH), is down to two schools. Reggie Rankin reported that the 2013 recruit has narrowed his choices to Ohio State and Wisconsin.
One player who added a school to his list is Isaac Hamilton, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from St. John Bosco (CA). The No. 7 ranked player in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125 is now considering UCLA in addition to Baylor, San Diego State, UNLV and UTEP, per Scout.com’s Josh Gershon.
Schuyler Rimmer of Boone (FL) tweeted that he will be making a collegiate decision “within the next week.” The 6-foot-9 class of 2013 power forward is a former Florida commit.
Seton Hall-bound Aquille Carr has transferred from to Arlington Country Day (FL), according to Source Hoops. The 5-foot-6 point guard from Baltimore is ranked No. 51 in the NBE Sports Class of 2013 Post-July Top 125.
Moving onto the 2014 class, Tyus Jones of Apple Valley (MN) tweeted a list of eight finalists. The 6-foot-1 point guard is down to Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio State. Jones was ranked No. 2 in the NBE Sports Class of 2014 Post-Summer Top 75, but the top-ranked player, Andrew Wiggins, has reclassified to 2013, making Jones the No. 1 recruit in his class.
Meanwhile, in the 2015 class, there is some unfortunate news regarding Mickey Mitchell of Prestonwood Christian (TX). The 6-foot-6 small forward may have suffered a serious injury in a high school football game. There are rumors abound that he tore his ACL, but USA Today’s Jason Jordan spoke with Mitchell’s coach, who said the star sophomore will have an MRI on Monday morning. Mitchell, also a big-time football recruit, is ranked No. 1 overall in the NBE Sports Class of 2015 Top 25 on the hardwood.
