Huntington Prep shooting guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes continues to be one of the most highly recruited players in the Class of 2013. The native Canadian and member of the CIA Bounce AAU program from his native country has always been known as a big time scorer, and that has continued this season with Huntington, but Rathan-Mayes is working on developing his all-around guard skills this year.
“The part of my game I’ve been working on the most is probably being more explosive and transitioning to the point [guard position],” said Rathan-Mayes over the weekend. “[As for the team] we’re looking to win a national championship this year that is our only goal.”
After the season Rathan-Mayes is looking forward to hitting the EYBL circuit with CIA Bounce one last time.
“In the summer I’m going to be playing with CIA bounce and looking forward to EYBL and having a great summer this being my final summer with aau,” he said.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound scorer has attracted plenty of attention from college coaches. There is no doubt this attention will only continue in the spring and into the summer and many schools will be keeping their eye on him. He has already accumulated numerous impressive offers and highlighted six schools working on him the hardest currently.
“Right now I have offers from Louisville, Kansas, Oregon, Baylor, Arizona, Florida State, NC State, Memphis, Penn State, Marquette, USC, St. John’s, Texas, Washington, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Villanova, South Florida, Connecticut, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Kansas State and a few others,” said Rathan-Mayes. “The hardest coming after me right now would probably be Kansas, UConn, Florida State, Illinois, NC State [and] Virginia Tech.”
At this point in his recruitment Rathan-Mayes tells NBE he is more in the accumulating stage of his recruitment. He is taking it all in and seeing who is making offers and showing interest. At this point there are no favorites or leaders and he will wait until after the season before he dives into that aspect of his recruitment and begin narrowing things down.
With that plan look for a decision from Rathan-Mayes to be on the later side, likely early next season. He did share with NBE what he will be looking for in the school that is lucky enough to land the talented guard.
“I’ll probably decide early next season [and] looking to go in make an impact right away, have a great coaching staff, great facilities and just somewhere I can get better each and every day,” he said.
NBE will be certian to continue to follow Xavier Rathan-Mayes as he works through the recruiting process and pushes himself to be one of the elite players in the Class of 2013 before everything is all said and done.
