While already well known in the Midwest, Detroit (MI) Community High’s Byron ‘Bo’ Zeigler is poised to make a big name for himself nationally this spring and summer on the recruiting trail. The 6-foot-6, 191-pound small forward, according to our friends at Hoops Window, is a rubberband man on the floor, offensively and defensively and utilizes a speed burst dribble and glide towards the hoop with ease, it doesn’t matter from which side of the court, Zeigler is effective with both hands. On defense, Hoops Window compares Zeigler to a smaller Hakim Warrick when he throws up his long arms to block a shot.
Zeigler told NBE this weekend that he is continuing to work on his ball-handling as well as his on-ball defense this season. With the spring AAU season approaching quickly, he is also looking forward to hitting the circuit with his Michigan Hurricane teammates.
“Just looking forward to AAU itself [because] it’s very competitive but fun at the same time,” said Zeigler. “[I] look forward to going up against some of the top players in the nation again.”
Zeigler is not looking too far ahead though as there is plenty of work to do before his high school season is complete. The Detroit Community High School Hurricanes have played a tough schedule and he counts their win at Clarkston as the highlight to this point. He has a destination goal in mind for the rest of the season.
“[I] want to get to Breslin and make a run for the state [title] because we missed it by one game last year,” he said.
On the recruiting front Zeigler has already racked up an impressive offer list just mid-way through his junior season. He listed Indiana, Providence, Michigan State, Iowa, Iowa State, Xavier, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Detroit, Tennessee and Dayton as schools he has offers from. Several of those schools have put forth a strong effort already in his recruitment that Zeigler has singled out.
“Tennesee has started to come hard, Providence too,” Zeigler said of those on him the heaviest. “Indiana is always gonna keep contact and Iowa State has visited me a few times this year.”
Most of the scuttlebutt has put the Hoosiers at, or near the top of his list for some time, and sitting behind the bench for IU’s thrilling buzzer-beating win over No. 1 Kentucky in December certainly made a lasting impression on him. However, Zeigler was not ready to place anyone ahead of the others when asked if he had a current leader or list of favorites, but he was able to identify some of the factors that will be most important in his college decision.
“No favorites,” said Zeigler. “It’s still wide open. I’ll probably make a decision my senior year…and factors are a good relationship with the coach, supporting fans, [the] education and not too far from home.”
We expect Bo Zeigler to get a lot of coaches on the AAU trail this spring and in the summer. NBE will continue to monitor his recruitment and is looking very much to the opportunity to see him in action on the circuit. Stay tuned to NBE for all the latest in the months to come…
