The main weekend of the 2011 Primetime Shootout tipped off on Friday night at Kean University in New Jersey with four games, featuring six of the eight teams from the Garden State.

While the games might not have had the hype of year’s past or the national interest that many of the Saturday and Sunday games promise, Friday night produced a stunning upset as well as a thrilling finish in the two most interesting games of the night.

The event opened with St. Joseph’s of Metuchen (NJ) 79-46 win over Pennington (NJ) Prep behind 31 points and 11 rebounds from Quenton DeCosey.

The second game featured Thomas Jefferson of the PSAL in NYC and Plainfield (NJ) HS. Providence head coach Keno Davis was in the stands for this contest and it was a thrilling finish as Davontay Grace connected on a jumnper to lift T-J to a 71-69 victory. Plainfield’s trio of juniors were impressive as Dijon Allen-Jordan paced Plainfield with 22 points and seven rebounds, Sekou Harris added 20 points, five assists and five steals and junior forward Jahmal Lane added 12 points.

The third game produced a stunning result as Linden (NJ) held off a late rally from Montrose Christian, ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Top 25, for a 57-53 win. Linden led by as many as 15, 42-27, in the second half before Montrose rallied.

J.R. Pringley scored 21 points and Linden also got 18 points from freshman center Quadri Moore, who continues to make a big name for himself early in his high school career. Moore showed great range by stepping out and hitting multiple three-pointers.

For Montrose, 6-foot-5 junior forward Justin Anderson had 18 points and 11 rebounds while Villanova-commit Tyrone Johnson scored 12 points in his return to New Jersey. Johnson previously attended Plainfield (NJ) HS.
