DEJUAN BLAIR EMBARKING ON MUSICAL CAREER
July 22, 2010 by NBE Blogger · 1 Comment
While we begin prepping our coverage for the second July live period, Ray Mernagh came across a music video featuring former Pittsburgh All-American center DeJuan Blair along with P.O.P, a local Pittsburgh artist. The video, paying homage to friends who have died all too soon, was filmed in the Pittsburgh Hill District not far from where Blair grew up.
The 21-year old Blair was a second round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs in the 2009 NBA draft following his two-year career with Pitt that saw him earn All-American status as a sophomore. In his NBA rookie season, Blair averaged 7.8 points and 6.4 rebounds a game while playing an average of 18 minutes a contest and earned all-NBA 2nd-team All-Rookie honors.
Concerns over a pair of surgically repaired knees from previous injuries called into question the longevity of a potential NBA career, causing Blair to slip into the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft. It looks like he is laying down the potential for a music career when his playing days are over. Luckily, looking at the shape he is in and the healthy rookie season he enjoyed (played in all 82 games), he should have plenty of time on the court in the NBA ahead of him and time to work on his ‘game’ when it comes to music before having to fall back into another profession.
Keep ballin’ big fella!
