Camp Championship Game

Pistons 81, Hawks 73

Defense and unselfishness proved to be the catalyst as the Pistons behind 12 points from Nick Faust and Sam Thompson, defeated the Hawks to capture the championship at the 2010 NBPA Top 100 Camp. Joseph Uchebo was a man among boys grabbing offensive boards like they were candy and keeping every early possession alive for the
Pistons. DeAndre Daniels, who finished with 11 points, put on a mini scoring display in the second half to push the lead ahead for good. Jabari Parker finished with 10 for the Pistons. Dezmine Wells was a big amount of awesome in this contest scoring 25 points in every conceivable manner possible. Josiah Turner added 15 points in the close loss. Chane Behanan and Anthony Davis finished with 12 each for the Hawks.

Saturday Afternoon Semifinals and Consolation Recaps:

Hawks 72, Lakers 58

The upstart Hawks, behind 20 points from wunderkind Anthony Davis, soared past the previously unbeaten Lakers 72-58 to earn themselves a spot in the championship game against the hard charging Pistons. Davis was a monster cleaning up errant shots and converting tough chances. “The One Man Gang” Chane Behanan continued his sterling camp effort tossing in 14 points and Dezmine Wells chipped in with 10 in the win. C.J. Barksdale led the Lakers with 12 points.

Pistons 81, Hornets 76

The Pistons rode their stout defense and experienced backcourt to slide past the Hornets 81-76 thus earning themselves a spot in the championship game this evening against the powerful and talented Hawks. Nick Faust continued his scoring onslaught of the camp finishing with 16 points followed closely by DeAndre Daniels with 12 and Ryan Arcidiacono with 11. Nick Jacobs led the Hornets with 14 markers while Alex Poythress and D’Angelo Harrison each finished with 13 points.

Jazz 95, Spurs 91

Wayne Blackshear and Cody Zeller put on a human scoring display dropping 27 and 25 respectively as the Jazz closed camp on a positive note slipping past the Spurs 95-91. Shaquille Thomas added 13 for the winning squad. Hunter Mickelson and Norman Powell each funneled 18 points while Aaron Ross added 14 and Tyrone Johnson had 12 in the close loss.

Celtics 83, Rockets 82

Isaiah Austin crushed home a thunderous dunk lifting the Celtics to a consolation game victory over the Rockets 83-82. Jakarr Sampson was mega big in this one scoring 27 points while his backcourt friend B.J.
Young added 23 in the tight victory. Jabari Brown and Rodney Purvis led the Rockets with 17 markers followed closely by Naadir Tharpe and Amile Jefferson with 13 and 12 respectively. Perry Ellis added 16 for the winners.

Cavs 61, Magic 56

Anthony Gill scored 16 points and helped lead the Cavs past the Magic 61-56 in an evening consolation contest. Julian Royal finished with 11 and Dorian Finney-Smith added 10 for the winners. Michael Carter-Williams led all scorers with 18 points for the Magic. P.J. Hairston and Kyle Wiltjer added 11 each for the Magic.

1st Round Playoff Results:

#1 Lakers 76, #8 Celtics 61

The Lakers made believers of everyone in the John Paul Jones Arena blasting their opening round opponent 76-61 with a well rounded defensive effort and 15 points including three treys from Cedric McAfee. The Memphis combo guard hit a long three before the halftime buzzer and continued his solid play into the second half. Joining McAfee in the scoring column for the Lakers were Mikael Hopkins with 13 and Bernard Sullivan with 11. Jakaar Sampson led the Celtics with 12 points while Tracy Abrams pitched with 11 in the losing effort. The Lakers will face the Hawks in semi-final action this afternoon.

#5 Hawks 67, #4 Jazz 62

Anthony Davis staked his claim as the top player in the camp scoring a game high 16 points leading the fifth seeded Hawks to the baby upset of the fourth seeded Jazz 67-62. Davis was a monster inside scoring with his length and making life miserable on the defensive end for his hapless counterparts. Josiah Turner and Shannon Scott pitched in
with 11 points each while Chane Behanan contributed 10 in the win. Deuce Bello was high man for the Jazz netting 14 points followed closely by Jahii Carson with 12 and Cody Zeller with 11.

#10 Magic 91, #9 Spurs 86

Kyle Wiltjer saved his best for last scoring a camp high 26 points on 10 for 12 shooting as the Magic flushed the Spurs 91-86 to capture the inaugural “Toilet Bowl”. Wiltjer’s heroics overcame an explosive effort from Aaron Ross who finished with 24 points for the Spurs. Joining Wiltjer in the scoring column for the Magic was Ryan Boatright
with 18 and the camp scoring leader P.J. Hairston with 17 points. Michael Gbinije finished with 15 for the Magic and Hunter Mickelson and Norman Powell added 10 apiece to the losing cause.

#2 Pistons 94, #7 Rockets 78

The second seeded Pistons wasted no time proving their worth dousing the Rockets 94-78 behind the shooting efforts of Chase Fisher. The wiry West Virginian dropped four threes on his unsuspecting foes totaling a game high 22 large. “Mighty” Chris Jones and Kaleb Tarczewski added 10 points apiece for the Pistons. Jarnell Stokes was the high man for the Rockets finishing with 12 points, joined in the scorebook by Naadir Tharpe with 11 and Amile Jefferson and Zach Price with 10.

#6 Hornets 69, #3 Cavs 64
D’Angelo Harrison netted 16 points and Alex Poythress came up big from the foul line late as the Hornets sporting the #6 seed slipped past the third seeded Cavs 69-64. A tight contest throughout held form as the teams battled down the stretch with the Hornets seizing the lead at 63-60 then a tough inside hoop from the Cavs Anthony Gill narrowed
the score even tighter. Poythress then converted from the line and the Hornets held on to advance to this afternoon’s semi-final against the Pistons. Poythress and Derrick Wilson scored 10 apiece for the winners. Gary Bell led the Cavs with 13 points while Austin Etherington and Gill finished with 10.
