Jazz 82, Spurs 78

Michael Gbinije scored 7 straight points igniting a furious Spurs rally and finished with 16, but it wasn’t enough as the Jazz hung on for a win over the Spurs.. The Jazz behind some sterling inside play from Cody Zeller and Derrick Randall pushed out to a 17-4 lead before the antics of Gbinije made the game interesting. Shaquille Thomas led a Jazz quintet of scorers with 15 followed closely by Derrick Randall with 14, Wayne Blackshear with 12 and Tyler Lewis and Deuce Bello with 11 respectively. Tyrone Johnson joined Gbinije in the scoring column with 15 followed by Hunter Mickelson with 14 and Jordan Goodman with 13.

Hornets 63, Rockets 57

Jarnell Stokes bulled his way to 14 points helping lead the Hornets to their first victory a 63-57 stinging of the Rockets. Rising sophomore Rodney Purvis added 12 and Byron Wesley 10 for the Hornets. DeAngelo Harrison was the lone Rocket to ring up double digits finishing the game with 13 markers.

Lakers 84, Magic 71

Brandon Dawson dropped 12 points and controlled the glass on both ends of the floor lifting the Lakers to a comfortable 84-71 dismantling of the Magic. The Lakers led 33-23 at the half and rode the broad shoulders of Dawson in the second to squirrel away the win. C.J. Barksdale and Sheldon McClellan each added 10 points for the Lakers. Ryan Boatright led all scorers with 18 including a pair of treys. P.J. Hairston added 17 and Kyle Wiltjer finished with 10 in the loss.

Cavs 62, Celtics 54

A little balanced scoring and a dash of Myck Kabongo was enough to push the Cavs camp record to 2-0 with a low scoring 62-54 win over the Celtics. Kabongo was held to six points but did his damage in every other conceivable fashion helping Julian Royal and Amir Garrett finish with 13 points apiece while assisting on most of Anthony Gill’s 12 markers in the win. B.J. Young led all scorers with 14 points.

Pistons 71, Hawks 61

In what turned out to be the most exciting game of the day, the Pistons overcame a Hawks rally that completely evaporated a 17 point second half lead only to rally with defense and balanced scoring and overcome with a 71-61 victory pushing their camp mark to 2-0. Chane Behanan, who finished with a camp high 19 points, converted his own missed foul shot for a bucket and tied the contest at 47 with fewer than 10 minutes to play for the Hawks. The Pistons used a sterling defensive effort including three, yes three, offensive charges to get their lead back and eventually coast away to the win. DeAndre Daniels led the Pistons with 9 points and a host of other finished with 8 markers including Chris Jones, Joseph Uchebo, Nick Faust and Ryan Arcidiacono. Josiah Turner added 15 for the Hawks in the tough loss.
