DIXON & DEPAUL: A MATCH MADE IN COMEDY HEAVEN

We at NBE have contributed to the rumor mill in the always fluid coaching carousel. It’s fun and there’s always good sources willing to pump themselves up — or their friends — for various jobs. Any rumors/speculation/sources we use are based on at least solid info though.

So I have a question: When did the Chicago Sun Times become the Onion?

An actual headline recently posted by the paper for its online edition: “Pittsburgh’s Jamie Dixon could be high on DePaul’s list for coach.”

Yes, I guess he could be, in fact I’d guess that Jamie Dixon is high on every one’s list. I bet Toledo would really like a shot at Jamie Dixon too but I don’t see that being a headline in a future edition of the Blade.

Jean Lenti Ponsetto says in the piece that “some candidates could even make it to the final weekend.” These candidates will apparently be interested inDePaul because the folks in Lincoln Park are all of a sudden ready to pay a Big East-type salary.

If Ponsetto really believes a coach getting to the Final Four will be interested in DePaul then that tells you a lot. Even if this is a clever ploy, say she’s targeting a guy like Ben Jacobson of Northern Iowa she has to know if one of those guys gets to the last weekend any interest they may have had in DePaul will be gone. Their agents will laugh when the name pops up on their cell.

Target a realistic coach.

There’s successful ones out there.

But stop with the charade, the foolish and false pride that lingers from days long since gone.

Jamie Dixon ain’t walking through that door.

She knows that….right?
