All the post-game statistics were pretty much dead-solid even in Georgetown’s eight point win over Pittsburgh Wednesday night.
Rebounds were 34-33 in favor of Pitt.
Field Goal Percentages were 46.4% for the Hoyas and 45.6% for the Panthers.
Georgetown turned it over 8 times and had 14 assists, Pitt had 9 miscues and 17 dimes.
Each team had 5 blocks while the Hoyas doubled up Pitt in the theft category (4-2).
Georgetown missed six free throws while Pitt missed seven.
Yup, it was about as even as possible…except from the three point line. And that was the difference.
If you just walked into the press conference afterwards, without watching the game, you might have questioned Jermaine Dixon’s sanity when he said, “none of their guards missed a three.” Heck, I watched the game and even I did a double take when he said that. Then I looked at the stat sheet.

Chris Wright was 3-3.
Austin Freeman was 2-2.
And Jason Clark was 2-2.
That’s 7-7 from the backcourt. Dixon was just stating the facts. Georgetown shot 70% from deep. Pitt was 4-18 with the normally sweet-shooting Ashton Gibbs going 2-8.
Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, echoing Jermaine Dixon and Gilbert Brown, said the Panthers hadn’t defended the last three games the way they need to in order to be a great defensive team.
Chris Wright had a whole lot to do with that. “He’s fast,” laughed Dixon when asked how Wright managed to score 27 points. “I watched him since he was in high school and he’s back to playing like he was then.”
Wright was everybody’s all american in high school.
Tonight he was all world.
And that, more than anything else, was the difference.
