DEPAUL STUNS MARQUETTE FOR RARE BIG EAST WIN

“It feels real good,” said DePaul interim coach Tracy Webster after his Blue Demons improbably beat Marquette last night in Rosemont, Illinois. “Not just for myself but for this guy right here (patting senior leader Will Walker on the back) he’s a senior and he’s been through a lot.”

Tracy Webster accomplished something in his third game that his former boss hadn’t been able to do in his last twenty four — he got a win in a regular season Big East game.

Marquette seemed to have it in hand up four points with 20 seconds to play and Lazar Hayward heading to the line. Hayward missed the front end and DePaul’s Mike Stovall drilled a three-pointer with 10 seconds left on the clock.

50-49 Marquette.

David Cubillan was then fouled and went to the line for two shots and missed them both. DePaul rushed the ball up the court and Marquette’s Mo Acker slapped the ball away from behind, only to have it go directly to Stovall who promptly buried another jumper with .7 seconds left for the one-point win.

Mark Aguirre smiled in the crowd, his hands raised.

Tracy Webster hugged Billy Garrett.

And Marquette walked off the floor…stunned.
