KAMARI MURPHY MOVES TO LINCOLN, BIG EAST INTEREST GROWS

2011 forward prospect moves from CHSAA to PSAL power in NYC

One of the more intriguing prospects in the class of 2011 in the basketball hotbed of New York City is Lincoln forward Kamari Murphy. The 6-foot-8, 197-pound Murphy has recently made some news with his transfer from Bishop Ford High School of the CHSAA to PSAL power Lincoln to play for coach Dwayne ‘Tiny’ Morton, the four-time defending PSAL champion.

“Competition of play was weak (at Bishop Ford) and I felt like in order to get ready for the next level, I have to play better talent to better myself,” Murphy said of the reasons for his move to Lincoln.

Plying at Lincoln provides exposure and competition with a non-league schedule that rivals any in the NYC/NJ area. Even with the graduation of Lance Stephenson Lincoln is a highly attractive option for national events and the addition of Murphy and return of guard Shaq Stokes the four-time PSAL champs will be a factor again this year for a fifth straight title.

“Things at Lincoln has been great,” Murphy told NBE. “My chemistry with the players is great. Coach ‘Tiny’ is good and he really takes the time out and shows me right from wrong and that’s what I need.”

This past summer at the St. John’s Elite Camp Murphy was active on the glass and showed some good post moves. He was able to get good position with his back to the basket and made himself available for entry passes.

“Being a big man that can run the floor ahead of the guards,” Murphy told NBE Sports of his strengths on the basketball court earlier this fall. “Rebounding, scoring in the low and high post, also being able to hit the outside three. I believe I have the whole package, but much more hard work is needed.”

The diverse skills and hard work has brought interest from many colleges in the recruiting process. Among those schools recruiting him, Murphy specifically mentioned Virginia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John’s, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Auburn, SIU “and a lot more.”

Murphy hopes to bring aggressiveness on both ends of the floor for Lincoln this season with a personal goal of averaging a double-double in points and rebounds in the quest to help the Railsplitters win their fifth straight PSAL title. NBE and many college coaches will be seeing Murphy and his teammates this winter in action several times.
