There was some hoops on this basketball Saturday courtesy of the Hoop Group who welcomed teams to the RAC on the Rutgers campus (as well as a couple local high school gyms) for their 2009 Fall Jam Fest.

NBE was represented by Matt Whitfield who spent a good portion of the day getting caught up with some of the local talent that made this another excellent event put on by The Hoop Group.

Below are the recruiting notes Matt gathered during his time Saturday at the Fall Jam Fest…

- According to the mother of Myles Mack, the 2011 guard out of Paterson Catholic, playing with the NJ Playaz today, is expecting to take an unofficial visit to Providence in the near future. She expects more offers to come her son’s way once recruiting for the class of 2010 is wrapped up by many of the schools showing interest in him.

- Kyle Anderson Sr., the father of 2012 Paterson Catholic guard Kyle Anderson, told NBE on Saturday that Michigan, North Carolina, USC, Oklahoma State and Oregon State have shown new interest since July. They are hoping to make an unofficial visit to Miami and Anderson will also be participating in the 17-U national team training camp in Colorado Springs.

Paterson Catholic’s schedule is highlighted by playing in the City of Palms Classic, Primetime Shootout and Springfield Hall of Fame Classic where they meet Chicago (IL) traditional power Simeon HS.

- Another Paterson Catholic player getting attention from college coaches is 6-foot-9 junior (2010) Derrick Randall. The big man told NBE Saturday that he has an offer from St. Joseph’s and is hearing from Villanova, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Providence and St. John’s. He is also looking at taking a visit to Providence.

- Don Bosco Prep G/F Vaughn Gray will visit Providence for their Midnight Madness event and, along with the Friars, claims offers from St. John’s, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Virginia, Rhode Island, St. Joe’s and Temple.

Gray is expecting Don Bosco to be a top 10 New Jersey team this season.

- Team Philly made the trek to the RAC on Saturday and their 16-U team was highlighted by 6-foot-6 F Amile Jefferson. The Friends Central prospect is a highly touted 2012 prospect who recently attended elite camps at Duke and Syracuse. Jefferson told NBE has offers from Penn State, West Virginia and Temple with additional interest from LaSalle and Villanova.

Jefferson said on Saturday that he is still working to develop his face-up game and is more comfortable playing with his back to the basket.

- Here is a new name to begin following, also from the 2012 class, Neshaminy (PA) High School guard Ryan Arcidiacano. The PA Playaz guard showed an excellent ability to knock down shots while making the right decisions with the basketball when NBE watched him in action.

According to his father, who was a former football player and team captain at ‘Nova, young Ryan has scholarship offers from St. Joe’s and Rutgers and is also hearing from Villanova, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Maryland and UNC.
———-

- Newark (NJ) Eastside guard Tariq Carey, a top 2012 prospect, was in action with New Jersey Elite on Saturday. Per his coach, Missouri, Oregon State, Villanova, St. John’s, Arkansas, George Mason, Siena and Notre Dame are among the schools showing interest.

Carey has already taken a visit to SMU and recently took a trip to St. John’s.

“It was pretty nice,” said Carey of the visit to St. John’s. “I like the coaches a lot.”

Carey is likely to take a visit to Villanova in the near future as well.
———-

- Jayon James, playing for Sports University, noted that Rice, Boston University, Columbia and St. Bonaventure were showing new interest. He is working on setting up visits with Columbia, Penn and BU.
———–

- James’ AAU teammate Derrick Williams has taken official visits to Atlantic 10 schools St. Bonaventure and Richmond. He is also seeing new interest from LaSalle, St. Joe’s, Temple and Northeastern.
