DeMatha junior takes in USC/OSU football game in Columbus this past weekend
by RAY MERNAGH
Quinn Cook was on a visit to Ohio State this past weekend and he was kind enough to answer some in-depth questions from NBE’s Ray Mernagh about the visit, where his recruitment stands right now, plus his affinity for go-go music, which all DC/MD cats (ask Sam Young about it) love.
Ray Mernagh (RM): That game was nuts — speak on the atmosphere if you don’t mind, it had to be bananas right?
Quinn Cook (QC): Yeah, that game was crazy. The fans starting tailgating at 7 in the morning and they were out all night. You could hardly hear yourself think at the game, that’s how loud it was.
—————
RM: What were your impressions of the campus?
QC: Everything I saw was nice. They have a new facility coming in 2011 and they are really excited about that.
—————-
RM: What other kids were there and had you met them all before?
QC All six of the 2010 recruiting class, plus Chasson Randle (my USA teammate), Cody Zeller, Brad Beal (another USA teammate), and I were all there.
——————
RM: Do you get to play pick-up on these unofficials or not? If so, how’d that go and was it with members of the team?
QC: Yeah we got a chance to play with the guys. Half of the OSU team played, all the recruits and I, plus Greg Oden played too. Mike Conley was there but he didn’t play.
—————-
RM: Who’s your primary recruiter?
QC: Coach Boals, he showed me around.
—————–
RM: Have they recruited you the hardest or is there a specific group of schools that are recruiting you the hardest?
QC: There are a lot of schools that are on me hard at this point.
—————-
RM: Are you getting tired of the process or are you able to step back, take a breath, and appreciate it?
QC: No, I’m loving the process. I’m just thankful to be in the position I’m in right now.
—————-
RM: For the people unaware of your passion to be great –How much work on your game do you put in a day?
QC: I probably put in 5-6 hours a day. It’s just something I love. You have to love being in the gym.
—————–
RM: Could you see yourself as a Buckeye?
QC: Coach Matta is a great coach and a great guy. He’s really down to earth.
——————
RM: Is there any definitive list yet (sorry gotta ask)? Did you have a revelation and commit?
QC: Ohio State, Arizona, North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Villanova, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Clemson, Florida State, Georgetown, Kansas State, UCLA, Maryland, Indiana, Baylor, Notre Dame, South Florida, UMASS, Providence and Miami. Jared (Sullunger) and JD (Weatherspoon) were pressuring me and Brad to commit but we wouldn’t give in (haha).
—————-
RM: I saw the youtube clips with the go-go band (Swagger & Substance REMIX) . Are they friends from your neighborhood –the name is New Impressionz correct?
QC: Yeah we all live in the same area. Anybosy that knows me knows I love go-go music. It’s a DC/MD thing. When Arize came up with the idea TJ and I were perfect for it. His band (New Impressionz) is probably the best. I’m a manager of my band (BWA). We are good as well. It’s something I just love.

RM: Alright man, we appreciate your time Quinn, keep ballin.
QC: Thanks for the opportunity, God Bless.
