Session IV at Rutgers had several prime Big East targets in action

The Hoop Group is currently holding Session IV of their Elite Camp this week at Rutgers University. On Wednesday, Matt Whitfield stopped by in the afternoon to check in on the game action and filed a report on some of the players in attendance getting interest from Big East schools for NBE.

Read on below for updates on Myles Mack, Fuquan Edwin, Jarrod Davis, Kyle Anderson and a couple new names Big East schools are also following…

Myles Mack
The class of 2011 guard out of Paterson Catholic is still at around the same size he was playing at this season. Looks to be playing slightly tighter defense. On Wednesday he turned his game up a notch in overtime, helping lead his team to a win.

After the game, Mack told NBE he has offers from St. John’s, Fordham, and Virginia Tech with interest from Providence, Xavier, DePaul and Syracuse.

Fuquan Edwin
As expected, the Seton Hall verbal commitment was possibly the most active player in the game. Frequently and easily taking the ball to the rack. He did not have to show much from the perimeter, which has improved, and he indicated to NBE that he is working hard at improving the perimeter skills this summer in anticipation of playing at the 2/3 for the Pirates when he gets to college.

Seton Hall, [first], I feel like is my home and second of all my game style is how they play,” said Edwin about why he committed to the Pirates. “Ain’t no way I’m leaving Seton Hall. I’m part of the family now.”

Dennis Green
While Kyrie Irving is the ‘now’ at point guard for St. Patrick’s of Elizabeth (NJ), Dennis Green is the future.

Green has a good frame for a sophomore (class of 2012). Was very composed on the court and hustled from end to end throughout. Showed a very good handle and on this day he was the best player on the court in his game (whch also included fellow NJ elite 2012 prospect Kyle Anderson). He showed the ability and willingness to take it to the rack hard.

Green told NBE he has ‘looks,’ from Indiana, Villanova, Virginia Tech, St. John’s and Siena. He has also previously taken an unofficial visit to Connecticut.

“He has a couple of times,” stated Green on if St. Pat’s coach Kevin Boyle has indicated if he would be the point guard of the future after Kyrie laves.

Dana Raysor
Another young and talented NJ guard, Raysor showed a nice handle and jumpshot and played hard throughout. After attending St. Patrick’s, Raysor will transfer to Cardinal McCarrick in South Amboy (NJ).

Raysor told NBE on Wednesday that h has looks from Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s and Rider.

Kyle Anderson
the highly touted class of 2012 guard told NBE he has offers from Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Arizona, LaSalle, St. Peter’s and Virginia Tech. Also mentioned Big East interest from Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Syracuse and Connecticut.

Currently, his favorite college teams to watch include North Carolina and Georgetown. Told NBE he has taken an unofficial to Georgetown and Seton Hall and was supposed to visit Wake Forest and Seton Hall in the past. Will likely visit Connecticut for midnight madness. His brother, Jamal Wilkins, played football at UConn.

Shaq Thomas
Has the speed and handle, but considering his status not overly impressive in action on Wednesday as we expected Thomas to be a standout performer. Still used his outstanding length and athleticism to put down several nice dunks in this game.

Thomas told NBE, “I’m still wide open right now. I’m still hearing from the same Big East schools and stuff, but I’m just worried about getting in school and getting my grades together.”

When NBE asked on his current class status (2010 or 2011), Thomas he stated he was in summer school now taking a class and that’s he’s making up for the class(es) he has to make up for.

As for his recruiting, Shaq mentioned to NBE that Syracuse, Xavier, West Virginia, Providence and LaSalle have offered him scholarships.

While previously at Mountain State Academy, Thomas told NBE Bob Huggins frequently came to practices (he was teammates of WVU commits Deniz Kilicli and Noah Cottrill). Also mentioned he has taken an unofficial visit to West Virginia as well and an to Syracuse and he plans to visit Providence in the next month.

Jarrod Davis
The athletic Lakewood (NJ) HS wing in the 2011 class told NBE he has offers from Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Siena, St. Joseph’s, Fordham, Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. John’s. Davis also mentioned he has Big East interest from Villanova and Georgetown.
