ORLANDO SUPER SHOWCASE RECRUITING UPDATES

Jeff Borzello continued his coverage of the AAU Super Showcase at the Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista (FL) on Saturday.

In a surprising turn of events, All-Ohio Red and Team Final, who met in the Peach Jam Championship two weeks ago, were both knocked out of the Gold Bracket in the first round. The Rising Stars upended the favorite from Ohio while the NJ Celtics, who beat All-Ohio Red earlier in the day in pool play, upset Team Final behind a sparkling performance by super talented Kyrie Irving.

Jeff Borzello will have more on the top players and action from his time in Orlando as the week continues. This morning he takes a look at some of the recruiting lists he was able to gather yesterday when talking to a lot of players he saw for the first time this summer…

L.J. Rose, a 6-foot-2 point guard in the class of 2012 playing with the Houston Hoops, has offers from Texas, Memphis and Oklahoma with interest from Kentucky, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Arizona.

Shane Larkin is a 5-foot-11 point guard out of nearby Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando (FL). The class of 2011 prospect has early offers from Central Florida and VCU with Clemson, Florida State, St. Joe’s, Marquette, Florida, Miami, South Florida, George Mason and Florida Atlantic. He plans to take an unofficial visit to Miami in August.

Charles Hankerson is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from the class of 2010 out of Miami (FL). He told NBE he has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Rice, Tulane, Virginia and Florida and has Florida State showing interest as well.

Team Takeover power forward Mikael Hopkins told NBE after his team’s match-up with City Rocks that he has offers from Clemson and Maryland. Others showing interest in the 6-foot-8 player from DeMatha include Florida, Texas, Georgetown, West Virginia and Xavier.

Hopkins is currently favoring the trio of Florida, Clemson and the Hoyas.

6-foot-3 Chris Babbitt dropped around 30 points on the Charlotte Royals. With current interest from UNC-Greensboro, Central Michigan and Southern Illinois, his recruiting profile could be one on the rise.

Alex Kirk is a 6-foot-10, 230-lb center in the class of 2010 from Los Alamos (NM). He is looking at offers from USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Maryland. Wake Forest and Georgia Tech are also showing interest.

6-foot-1 point guard J-Mychal Reese of Bryan (TX) High School has Kansas, Baylor and Texas on a nice, tidy list for a 2012 prospect.

David Nyarsuk is a 7-footer that has intrigued many programs while playing at the Patterson (NC) School. The class of 2010 big man is here with the Charlotte Royals and told NBE he has Ohio State, Tennessee, Indiana, New Mexico, Cincinnati and Kentucky on his list of colleges.

Class of 2011 point guard Ky Madden of the Arkansas Wings has offers from Memphis, Ole MIss, Kentucky, Baylor, Arkansas, Kansas, Tennessee and LSU. North Carolina, Texas, Florida and Georgia are also showing interest.

Currently, Ole Miss, UK, Arkansas and Florida are his favorites.

When the entire UNC staff shows up for an AAU contest, you become intrigued with the participants. That was what happened in the game between the Cincinnati Royals and Team United. The main attraction was Marquis Rankin a 5-foot-11 point guard out of Vance High School in Charlotte (NC). Rankin told NBE he has offers from Wake Forest, Clemson, Louisiana Tech, Virginia Tech (who was also watching the contest), South Carolina and Ole Miss. North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, Alabama, Syracuse, Marquette and Oklahoma are showing interest as well.

Kimari Murphy of the Long Island Lightning 16′s told NBE that St. John’s, Providence, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Auburn, St. Joe’s and Hofstra were recruiting him.

Playing with Caron Butler Team Takeover, Darion Atkins, a 6-foot-7 power forward out of the Landon (MD) School, played well here. Virginia Tech, Maryland, George Mason and George Washington are the offers claimed by the 2011 prospect with Georgetown, Xavier, Wake Forest and Wisconsin showing interest.
