While Jeff Borzello is checking in regularly with Orlando Super Showcase News & Notes, we take a quick tour around the Big East for some of the latest news and notes being reported around the web on this Friday.

Andy Rautins is using another busy summer to prepare for an increased amount of responsibility next season at SU, Chris Smith goes back to his roots and Darius Smith prepares for his freshman season at UConn. There is also a story on recent RU commitment Andrew Nicholas, elite 2012 prospect Kyle Anderson and recruiting notes on the recently open Josh Selby and Washington 2011 star Anthony Wroten Jr. who could head east for his college career.

Read all these below…

The role of Andy Rautins becomes much bigger next year for the Syracuse Orange in the wake of Johnny Flynn, Eric Devendorf and Paul Harris all moving on to the professional ranks before their eligibility expired. In preparation, Rautins Tours Italy with team Canada (Syracuse Post-Standard) this summer playing point guard as his father, Leo, coaches. Leo Rautins was a former star player as well for jom Boehiem at SU.

Here is a nice story on Chris Smith one of NBE’s All-Time Top 50 Big East players from the Hartford Courant: Chris Smith: From Bridgeport and Back. One of Jim Calhoun’s most important recruits at Connecticut is now back home coaching at Kolbe Cathedral High School.

Speaking of UConn, the Hartford Courant lets readers get to know incoming freshman Darius Smith a little more…

Rutgers dipped into the class of 2011 with a commitment from Andrew Nicholas recently. Although he heads towards his junior year with his school choice behind him, Nicholas is Focused on his Eastern York (Daily Record) High school team. Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, St. Joseph’s, Florida State and Villanova all made plays at one point or another, but Nicholas wanted the process of recruiting to end and cast a commitment with the Scarlet Knights.

Josh Selby reopened his recruitment recently after decomitting from Tennessee and many schools have made their intentions to recruit him very clear while he is playing in Vegas with the Baltimore Assault. The Louisville Courier-Journal has a Josh Selby Update as his mother tries to set the record straight that ‘Worldwide Wes’ is not orchestrating an arrangement for Selby to end up at Kentucky, playing for friend John Calipari.

Selby had Calipari, Florida coach Billy Donovan and Kansas coach Bill Self among those in attendance on Thursday morning. Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun and Memphis boss Josh Pastern were there Wednesday. The article also suggests Louisville is trying to get involved.

Kyle Anderson is widely considered the next elite talent to come out of Paterson (NJ). Adam Zagoria has a nice story, that despite already measuring in at close to 6-foot-7, Anderson is Head and Shoulders Above (SNY.tv) the competition in the class of 2012.

Kyle Anderson Sr. gave NBE a list off the top of his head of the schools in touch most often in the early stages of his son’s recruitment at the Reebok All-American camp earlier this month. The schools were Georgetown, Kansas, Pittsburgh, LaSalle, Texas, Miami, Rutgers, St. John’s, Kentucky and Indiana.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has an article on UNLV chasing 2011 standout guard Anthony Wroten Jr who is a prime Pac-10 target but has consistently expressed a desire to seriously consider coming East for his college career. While the Rebels are in the Running For Elite Recruit Wroten, the competition is stiff as Wroten mentioned Arizona, Villanova, Syracuse and Louisville among his favorites.
