MAURICE WALKER HAS OFFERS, HARLEY JAMFEST NOTES

The July open evaluation period has come to a conclusion, but the action continues this morning in Morgantown (WV) as the West Virginia Jamfest, run by the Hoop Group, moves to crown a champion.
This morning, God’s Glory, led by Donte Thomas of Ballou (DC) High School, took down Team Jersey Elite in one semifinal. The boys from DC will take on the Ohio Basketball Club, led by West Virginia-commit Noah Cottrill and his deadly pull-up jumper, in this afternoon’s championship contest. OBC got past Team Takeover-Canada to make it into the finals.
One player that has caught the attention of Brian Crownover, who has been providing NBE with updates from Morgantown, is Team Takeover – Canada big man Maurice Walker. In the range of 6-foot-10 and 270 pounds, Walker uses his massive body effectively and also has great hands and touch, a must to be a quality big man at the level of the Big East, something Crownover feels Walker can be.
College recruiters also must agree with that assesment as Walker noted he has received offers from Georgetown, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Nebraska. Connecticut, Villanova and Memphis are also showing interest.
Walker will be attending Brewster Academy this fall and should be seeing a lot of college coaches come by and take a look if he is still available after the summer.
Team Jersey Elite was led in West Virginia by Plainfield (NJ) guard Tyrone Johnson. Also a star on the football field, Johnson has indicated in the past to NBE that basketball is his first love and the 2011 prospect is among the ‘first loved’ by many programs looking for a lead guard in his class. Johnson has collected offers from Rutgers, Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, UMass and UNLV and Interest is building from schools such as Memphis, Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana.
We had several other notes from Brian in today’s earlier article, Open Evaluation period News & Notes, from his time at the Jamfest.
