July 13, 2009 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment

Jeff Borzello is back at the Riverview Park Activities Center this morning for the Nike Peach Jam. Once again, the college coaches are turning out in droves to check in on the action as we begin to wind down the first leg of the July evaluation period. Throughout the day, Jeff will be provided updates from North Augusta (SC) on the latest news, notes and his observations as he scans the crowd to see what colleges are watching each game.

Also, Doug Ferguson has made his way to North Augusta as well and will be providing additional updates as well…

10:22 PM (Jeff): Harrison Barnes tells NBE tonight that his list currently reads North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Kansas, UCLA, Stanford, Florida, Minnesota, Iowa and Iowa State.

10:12 PM (Doug): There was a little furor online today caused by a Marquise Teague Facebook profile update. According to Spiece basketball director Todd Hensley there has not been a commitment. Teague’s mother was standing there and reinforced that point.

10:00 PM (Jeff): Mike Gbinije and Team Takeover had an easy time with Each One Teach One as Brandon Knight did not play and Austin Rivers missed most of the second half as he might have been under the weather.

Gbinije, who has been bothered by back and knee soreness this spring and summer, told NBE he is concentrating on the ACC in his recruitment.

8:30 PM (Jeff): Playaz came back and won over the Gauchos. Jaylen Bond, a new addition to the squad, was a key performer in the second-half rally.

8:15 PM (Jeff): Here are a couple recruiting updates gathered a little earlier this evening…

- Doron Lamb currently has Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma, Marquette, Connecticut, Arizona, Rutgers and St. John’s on his list.

He told NBE he liked his recent visit to UK and wants to see Kansas and Oklahoma.

He has also visited Louisville in the past, but he is no longer considering the Cards.

- 6-foot-8 class of 2011 forward Mike Shaw of Mac Irvin Fire tells NBE that USC, Florida, Texas, Louisville, Illinois and Ohio State are on his list.

He has visited UL and Texas and wants to see Florida and USC.

He also told NBE that he would like to play in college with Fire teammate Wayne Blackshear, an elite 2011 wing. They both recently visited Louisville together as well as Texas.

7:45 PM (Jeff): NY Gauchos against the NJ Playaz. Gauchos have held the ball for over a minute…

No dribbles, no passes…

Just Doron Lamb holding it.

two minutes…

three minutes…

four minutes…

After holding it for 5:05, they take a three…hit the backboard..no good. Gauchos lead 25-18 at the half.

Melsahn Basabe has a game-high nine points at the half for the Gauchos. Seton Hall-commit Fuquan Edwin, sporting a new haircut, has seven for the Playaz.

3:30 PM (Jeff): The Southern Kings and Spiece U-16 contest has drawn notables such as Mark Fox, Rick Pitino (Louisville), Kevin O’Neill and Seth Greenberg this afternoon.

Shannon Scott, a 6-foot-2 point guard in the 2011 class, has shown well for the Southern Kings.

3:00 PM (Jeff): St. Louis Eagles and BABC have drawn a crowd in the U-16 action this afternoon. When Coach K, Roy Williams and Bill Self attend a game together, there is a main attraction and that is likely Bradley Beal, a shooting guard out of St. Louis (MO) who starred on the USA U-16 gold-medal winning team last month. BABC has 6-foot-9 class of 2012 big man Nerlens Noel of Everett (MA) High School.

He has seen UL and UConn, as well as South Carolina, FSU and Miami and hopes to see Florida soon.

2:00 PM (Jeff): The Family holds on for a 58-55 win as Team Final’s attempt at a game-tying three came up short.

The Seattle Rotary duo of Anthony Wroten (2011) and Josh Smith (2010) are drawing their share of on-lookers from the Big East and Pac 10 as well as Lorenzo Romar, Johnny Dawkins, Sean Miller and Ben Howland are som of the head coaches from out west at this game. Tom Crean, Jeff Capel and Bruiser Flint are also among the crowd.

The Gauchos lead 56-49 with just over two minutes left.

Boo Williams has a slight lead, 54-52, over Georgia Stars in a see-saw contest.

12:30 PM (Jeff): The Georgia Stars lead Boo Williams 35-29 at the half. Jeremy Lamb (13 points) has played well for the Stars and Brian Richardson, a shooting guard out of Wilson (NC) has 8 for Boo at the break.

Brandon Knight missed this morning’s contest because of injury.

12:15 PM (Doug): Rick Pitino has just walked in and sat down to get a look at Mac Irvin Fire. Louisville has been showing interest in their 2011 prospects Mike Shaw and Wayne Blackshear.

Noon (Jeff): Boo Williams and the Georgia Stars have filled every coaches seat at their court.

11:50 AM (Jeff): Terrence Jones is a 6-foot-8 power forward out of Jefferson High school in Portland (OR). After his I-5 Elite squad picked up the win over the Arkansas Wings, Jones told NBE that Duke, North Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Georgetown, Marquette, Maryland, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, UCLA, USC, Cal, Texas and Kansas are on his list. It is a packed house of college coaches, many head coaches, and with Each One Teach One (Brandon Knight) playing on the other court against Spiece Indy Heat. Austin Rivers has nine at the half leading the guys from Florida to a 37-31 lead.

9:22 AM (Jeff): City Rocks’ 6-foot-8 big mane Brice Kofane out of the Miller School in Virginia just blocked three staright shots. Nice little attention getter with a who’s who of college coaches watching.
