REEBOK ALL-AMERICAN CAMP UPDATE III

July 9, 2009 by · 1 Comment

Jeff and Matt are back in position on Thursday morning on the Philadelphia University campus and the action is heating up on the court as more college coaches and media personell have made their way here.

NBE has been making the rounds, chatting with players and noting the familiar faces of colleges coaches scattered throughout the crowd taking in the action. It will be another long day of hoops and throughout the day NBE will provide the latest updates throughout.

Here is our first look of the day and it is JAM PACKED with notes…

- Early risers among the coaching community include Rick Stansberry, Buzz Williams of Marquette, Seth Greenberg, Keno Davis of Providence and Norm Roberts of St. John’s. Kudos to the Big East trio who were all at the King City Classic in Cleveland yesterday.

- Tarik Black, a solidly built 6-foot-7+ big man out of Memphis (TN) is not one in favor of giving out school lists as he has seen his share of “weird reports” on his recruitment. He did indicate to NBE that Connecticut is one of the schools on his list.

- Tyrone Johnson, an elite dual-sport athlete from Plainfield (NJ) in the class of 2011 lists Georgetown, Villanova, Rutgers, UNLV, Syracuse, Kentucky, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Florida as schools in his recruitment.

Johnson has been to the campuses of Georgetown, Villanova and Rutgers. He will see Florida while travelling the AAU circuit this month and would also like to check out Virginia Tech, Kentucky and Syracuse.

- Rodney Hood is a class of 2011 small forward from Meridan (MS) who stands about 6-foot-7 and weighs in at about 180 pounds. Hood told NBE he is considering Georgetown, Louisville and Marquette from the Big East along with Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Florida, Mississippi State, Baylor and Alabama.

- Desmond Hubert, a 6-foot-8+, 195-pound, class of 2011 big man out of New Egypt (NJ) has interest from Villanova and Georgetown, as well as Virginia Tech and Maryland, while Xavier, Miami, Penn State, Wake forest and St. Joseph’s have extended scholarship offers.

- Ashton Pankey a St. Anthony’s (NJ) power forward, is getting new recruiting interest from Miami, USC and Syracuse. He has offers from Providence, Rhode Island, Manhattan, Drexel and Rice with Temple, St. John’s, Connecticut and Pittsburgh showing strong interest.

- In an earlier game, Jerelle Reischel showed excellent court awareness and was very active on both ends. Seton Hall-commit Fuquan Edwin hustled hard and shows an improving handle with the basketball. Joe Jackson continues to impress as the best player on the floor once again. He has elite speed and turned it up a notch to lead his team to a second half rally. Waverly Austin has shown well, too. He was the best big man on the floor in this contest watched by NBE.

- More coaches have worked their way into view as Pittsburgh assistant Brandin Knight is making himself seen, Tennessee has a representative front and center and Anthony Grant, the new Alabama coach, is taking in the action. Fran Dunphy and Travis Ford have been spotted as have assistants from Florida, Connecticut, who has now been joined by head coach Jim Calhoun and Louisville.

- Paterson Catholic 2011 sharp-shooter Myles Mack has added interest from Syracuse and DePaul, as well as VCU. He would like to visit the Orange and Blue Demons as well as Virginia Tech and St. John’s, who has extended an offer. He also mentioned he has not heard from Georgetown in some time.

- Another St. Athony’s (NJ) forward, Devon Collier, gave NBE a list of current schools he is considering and would like to visit. Those schools are Virginia, West Virginia, Villanova, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Xavier and Syracuse.

- Derrick Wilson, the 2011 Hotchkiss (CT) School point gaurd, who is also a top running back prospect on the gridiron, rattled off a list of Ohio State, Stanford, Georgia Tech (offer), UNC, Washington, Syracuse (offer) and Rutgers (offer) as schools on his list.

- St. Raymond’s (NYC) High School 2011 PF/C Sidiki Johnson remains a popular player among college coaches. Connecticut, Arizona, Kentucky, Wake Forest, St. John’s, Pittsburgh, Providence, West Virginia and Virginia Tech are among those showing interest. He has toured UConn, Kentucky and SJU. Will probably visit PC in the near future and likely Va Tech in August. He has also visited Arizona.

- Friends Central big forward Dominic Morris has interest from West Virginia and Syracuse out of the Big East. Siena, Howard, Rider, Robert Morris, UMBC and Hartford have offered. Richmond, George Mason and others are also interested.

- Vaughn Gray of Bosco Prep is lising interest from Oklahoma State, Houston, Temple, LaSalle, Villanova, Penn State and VCU, claiming offers from each.

- Sewickley (PA) Academy’s Tom Droney has offers from Davidson and Notre Dame with high interest in Tommy Amaker’s Harvard program as well. Academic and basketball fit will be very important to Droney and he also has Virginia and Boston College high on his interest list. UMass, Oklahoma State and others have been inquiring of late, too.

- Lehigh Acres (FL) shooting guard Jelani Hewitt has a list of schools that include Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Auburn.

- Tyler Olander is a 6-foot-9 New Engalnder with a nice perimeter game. His recruitment continues to grow rapidly as he claimed offers from Vanderbilt, LaSalle and Connecticut today in talking with NBE and interest from Providence, Stanford, Penn State and Oregon State.

- Cameron Ayers of Germantown Academy, and younger brother of former Irish guard Ryan Ayers, gave a list of Clemson, Georgetown, Virginia, Michigan, Temple, LaSalle and St. Joe’s.

- Oak Hill guard Pe’shon Howard has been seeing a lot of South Florida head coach Stan Heath who has been present at just about all his games when the opportunity presents itself. St. John’s, Rutgers and Marquette are also on his list from the Big East with Harvard, Stanford, Virginia Tech and Arkansas.

- Devonte Newbill is seeing his stock rise this spring and summer. Playing at nearby Strawberry Mansion HS in Philly, Newbill did not have a lot of interest from colleges last winter, but that is changing. Marquette is showing interest in the 6-foot-3 guard in the class of 2010 and so has been DePaul. LaSalle, Drexel, Temple, Niagara and Nebraska are also very interested in following him, too.
