It was an impressive first game at the King City Classic in Cleveland OH, especially for one Marquis Teague, who absolutely amazed everyone in attendance.

Teague, a 6-2, 165 lb guard was absolutely unstoppable when the driving the lane. While at times, overzealous and selfish with the ball, forcing some of his layups and jumpers to be contested and altered, most of the time he was controlled, calm and displayed incredible athleticism. One play, in particular, sort of defined the day Teague was having, where he drove and split two defenders on a drive and flew through the lane for a kiss off the glass.

When Teague wasn’t busy driving, he was juking defenders on his smooth crossover at the top of the arc, and dropping Lebron James-esque fadeaway three pointers. He came out and dropped 3 of his first 4, including a bank from the top of the key in the first half.

He was pretty much unstoppable for the majority of the game.

Harrison Barnes (6-8, 209 lb) and Malcolm Gilbert (6-11, 214 lb) also impressed a good bit today, displaying strong post up moves and great athleticism on the boards.

Barnes showed off his work outside the paint with a few drives from the arc to the paint, including one where he split two defenders, and worked a spin move en route to a driving dunk that got a good reaction from the crowd, including the coaches in attendance. Harrison set up a great play late in the game, where he lobbed an ally op pass to a high-flying Josh Selby who jammed it home.

Gilbert grabbed the attention of several coaches himself, including Pittsburgh assistant Tom Herrion, with his outside game, which was on fire in the first half. He also displayed some great defensive skills, cutting off Travis Carroll and Barnes several times on the baseline.

Keala King started to garner some attention after a great block on a man much bigger than him set up a transition fast break play, in which he finished by drawing a foul. His quickness was as good as anybody on the floor. He also showed incredible toughness in the paint, as he and his 6-5, 180 lb frame banged with the big boys all game long, pulling down rebounds and giving his team second chance opportunities.

CJ Fair (6-7, 196 lb) was pretty impressive in the long range department, dropping several off the dribble three pointers. He nailed two in a row early, one after grabbing the rebound on the other end and driving the length of the floor.

Michael Gbinije (6-6, 194 lb) and JL Rose displayed almost the same style of game. Both dropping their midrange jumpers, usually from the corner, and both playing hardnosed, aggressive defense and keeping both of the guys they were on in front of them.

Trevor Cooney (6-4, 185 lb) struggled a good bit today, missing most of the three-point opportunities he had. After a while, his frustration was noticed, as he started to take more and more contested long range shots. He did make some solid decisions in his passing game, with a few sharp behind-the-back looks, and some quick thinking, including a play where he picked up a loose ball and knocked down the contested fadeaway midrange jumper.

Doron Lamb (6-3, 183 lb) and Taran Buie (6-1, 172 lb) didn’t make much noise, and other than consistent defense, really had nothing else that stood out. It was mostly the < a href="http://w3.nbebasketball.com/2009-big-east-recruit-database/josh-selby/">Josh Selby (Tennessee commit) and JT Terrell (Wake Forest commit) show on the wing for Michigan State’s offense.
