July 6, 2009 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment

The college coaches have flocked to the Queen City on the Ohio River as Cincinnati is the place to be on the opening day of the July live evaluation period as the Adidas it Takes 5ive Classic has tipped off.

Since college coaches are not attending the Lebron James Skills Academy, many are getting their start in Cincinnati before heading to points such as Cleveland (King City Classic) and Philadelphia (Reebok All-American Camp) on Wednesday.

Doug Ferguson made the trip from Chicago-land area to Cincinnati this morning and will be reporting live for NBE from the scene…let’s see today’s updates…

Evening Update:

Trae Golden gave NBE a school list after he and the Atlanta Celtics fell to an impressive Michigan Mustangs squad. Golden listed Georgia, Georgia Tech, Arizona, Arizona State, Syracuse, Georgetown, Connecticut, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The Florida Rams, which feature Fadricio de Melo and Josh Langford continue to draw a crowd of college coaches when they hit the court. On hand to watch ‘Fab’ Melo and company were West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins, who is back in the familiar surroundings of Fifth Third arena on the UC campus, Georgetown head coach John Thompson III, the ever-present Louisville staff member representative, Roy Williams, Gary Williams, Danny Manning and many other assistants from across the country.

Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin and assistants from Pittsburgh and Providence were milling about the Triple Threat/Team Takeover (Canada) contest. The Canadian squad had some big size with Melvin Ejim, Kadeem Green and Maurice Walker. Ejim attends Brewster Academy and has long been on the PC radar.

11:45 AM update: After checking in, the crowd seems to be gathering at Court One in the Fifth Third Arena on the UC campus. Louisville head coach Rick Pitino is making himself seen as is Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey and assistants from DePaul for the D1E (Derrick Rose All-Stars) contest. Sean Miller (Arizona), Danny Manning (Kansas) and others are watching closely, too.
