Class of 2011 guard starred on USA U-16 gold medal winning team
Basketball can take you places, and for Quinn Cook, the game has potential to take him far, literally and figuratively. Cook is home after competing with the USA Under-16 national team where they captured a gold medal going 5-0 at the 2009 FIBA Americas 16U Championships in Mendoza, Argentina. In the gold-medal clinching contest, Cook scored 22 points in a 101-87 victory over the host Argentina squad. It was an experience to remember and cherish for Cook.
“My experience was great,” said Cook to NBE. “It was an honor to put on a USA jersey and represent my country. We had a blast over there.” Cook continued, “Just being presented with the gold medals and all of us just had a big smile on. That was my memory.”
Being a (rising) junior in the class of 2011, Cook and teammates returned home to increased recruiting attention. Beginning on June 15, college coaches were permitted to begin calling players in the class of 2011. Now home, Cook has seen his phone hit up often as the DeMatha Catholic point guard is one of the most coveted players in the class.
“Ohio St, Georgetown, Marquette, North Carolina, Virgina Tech, Villanova, couple more,” Cook told NBE of those that have called already in his short time home. “All of the schools have been giving a great effort so far.”
Cook will have a little time to rest, but do not expect him to see the 6-foot-1, 175-lb Cook to be resting on his laurels. He already plans to be back in the gym to work on his game and will be a fixture on the AAU circuit with the very visable and talented DC Assault squad.
Quinn Cook is the kind of player the USA should cherish having represent the country. He will always cherish his experience representing the USA and bringing home the gold. When you see him this summer, make sure you congratulate and thank him for all of us!
