NBA TOP 100 CAMP RECRUITING NOTES
June 21, 2009 by NBE Blogger · 2 Comments
Matt Whitfield wrapped up his coverage of the NBA Players Association’s Top 100 high school basketball camp at the University of Virginia on Saturday afternoon. Before Matt hit the road towards New Jersey, he gave NBE the rundown on several top players and where their recruitment currents stands. Let’s take a look at the latest updates, which include a few new scoops that many will find interesting around the Big East (15 of the 16 teams mentioned one one list or another) and the country…
Rod Odom
The 6-foot-8 small forward from the class of 2010 from the Middlesex (MA) School told NBE this weekend that he would like to visit Louisville, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Stanford and Arizona soon and he has visited Xavier, Georgetown, Providence and Boston College. Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Arkansas have also offered scholarships.
Odom indicated to NBE that he has grown up a Georgetown fan out of the Big East.

Adreian Payne
The 6-foot-10 big man out of Dayton (OH) Jefferson HS told NBE he currently has 12 offers and he has been on the campuses of West Virginia, Xavier, Michigan State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Akron, Dayton and Cincinnati.

Jonathan Graham
Graham is a 6-foot-8 PF/C that attends Calvert Hall in Baltimore (MD). Currently he has has a scholarship offer from Providence. Graham likes both the Big East and the ACC and is also getting interest from Big East schools such as Villanova, West Virginia, South Florida and Georgetown. He hopes to takes visits to Maryland, ‘Nova and with the Hoyas.
Graham also has a strong liking of the Villanova head coach.
“I like how he coaches, even in tough situations,” Graham said of Jay Wright. “He manages to stay cool and keeps his players calm and they win games like that.”

Joe Jackson
The Memphis (TN) White Station HS 5-foot-11 point has heard from everyone in the Big East looking for a lead guard in the 2010 class. Jackson mentioned Syracuse, Kansas, Texas and Memphis as four of his potential five official visits.

LeBryan Nash
Nash is a class of 2011 small forward out of Dallas (TX). The 6-foot-7 Lincoln High School star has one Big East school coming on aggressively very early.
“Syracuse has recruited me big,” says Nash of the early SU effort.
Nash, an elite player in his class, also mentioned that Big East schools such as Connecticut, Villanova and Marquette are recruiting him. However, the Orange seem to be making a strong early impression.
“My favorite team is Syracuse right now,” Nash told NBE. “[SU is the] first school I like to watch because I like the way they play in the run and gun offense.”

Mychal Parker
Parker is a 6-foot-6 forward out of the Miller School in Corzet (VA). He told NBE this weekend that Miami, Maryland, Florida, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Georgetown have offered him scholarships. Connecticut and West Virginia have also expressed interest from the Big East.

Fabricio de Melo
Syracuse, Connecticut, Louisville, Florida and Florida St. have all received visits from ‘Fab’ Melo, who also indicated to NBE on Saturday that Duke has also offered a scholarship.

Trey Zeigler
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Mt. Pleasant (MI) informed NBE on Saturday that he has offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Miami, Michigan State, Michigan, Providence, UCLA, LSU and Dayton.
Lately, Pittsburgh has also been showing strong interest and Zeigler definitely plans to visit Pitt later this summer, likely in August. He has already visited Michigan, Michigan State and UCLA and also would like to visit Arizona State and LSU this summer. A top five list would likely be created following the summer visits.
Trey is the son of Ernie Zeigler, the current head basketball coach at Central Michigan. Prior to the job at CMU, Ernie was an assistant under Ben Howland at UCLA and Pittsburgh, where he was on the staff with Jamie Dixon.

Justin Martin
Martin, a 6-foot-7 small forward, was expected to be part of the Lawrence North pipeline from Indianapolis to Louisville when he committed to the Cards back in November of 2008 over Xavier. However, in late May, Martin decided he would like to look around a little more and de-committed from the Cards. While he still considers the Cards an option, Martin told NBE he has not heard from UL in the month since he de-committed.
Miami, Xavier and Arizona, where Sean Miller has landed after leaving XU, are schools that have offered scholarships. Since his de-commitment, Notre Dame and DePaul have been starting to recruit him.

Tobias Harris
Indications from his father, Torrel Harris, Sr., are that Connecticut, West Virginia and Tennessee are the three that might be separating themselves from the many still on Tobias’ college list. Big East schools such as Syracuse, Louisville, ,Rutgers and Notre Dame remain in the hunt.
