RUMBLE IN THE BRONX: DAY III (LIVE UPDATES)

It is playoff time at the 2009 Rumble in the Bronx. Jeff Borzello is back at it again on Sunday, checking out the action at Fordham.
It is over at Fordham and Team Final wins the Rumble in the Bronx with a 73-58 win over Cali Supreme. Elite 2011 prospect Michael Gilchrist wins the MVP award after a terrific weekend of basketball for the St. Patrick’s (NJ) forward.
In the finale, fellow 2011 prospect Rakeem Christmas scored a game-high 18 and Tyreek Duren was a dominant force with the ball as nobody could contain him. Duren added 16 and Markus Kennedy scored 13 for the winners.
Keala King, who had an eye-opening weekend for Cali Supreme on the east coast, finished with 14 points.
CBC took home the 17-U Silver bracket championship.
Recruiting notes: Miles Cartwright, a guard from Los Angeles – Loyola HS has interest in Penn, Princeton, Stanford, Cal, Washington State, Oregon State and Oregon.
Majok Majok, playing with CBC, gave NBE a list of Stanford, Marquette, Missouri, Arkansas, Oregon State, Minnesota, Providence, St. John’s and Harvard. His top three would be Stanford, Harvard and Marquette. He would really like to visit Stanford.

Team Final has a 42-35 halftime lead over Cali Supreme. Tyrek Duren is leading the way with 13 ist-half points and Rakeem Christmas and Trevor Cooney have 11 each.
Miles Cartwright has 11 at the half for the west coasters and Dwayne Polee has 8.

A couple recruiting notes on the NJ Playaz: Myles Davis, the hot shooting guard from St. Peter’s Prep likes Virginia, Marist, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Louisville, Wake Forest, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Arizona. He hopes to visit UVA and Pitt soon.
Vaughn Gray, a forward from Don Bosco Prep, likes Delaware, Providence, UMass, Temple, St. Joe’s and Villanova. He hopes to check out PC and ‘Nova in the near future.

Joey De La Rosa of New Heights/St. Raymond’s mentioned Providence, Georgetown, West Virginia, Hofstra and Fordham. The 6-foot-10 big man in the class of 2011 has been showing nice progression this spring.

Jermaine Sanders of New Heights/Rice HS lists Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Seton Hall and St. John’s as schools of interest. He will be going to visit UVA next weekend.

The 16-U Gold Championship is claimed by New Heights after a 51-44 victory over NJ Playaz. Chris Gayot is the MVP.

Recruiting update on Trevor Cooney, a 2011 prospect out of Delaware playing for Team Final. His current schools of interest include Boston U, Delaware, Syracuse, Villanova, Ohio State, Rutgers, Texas and Maryland. He has been to Delaware and ‘Cuse, ‘Nova and Maryland and would like to see Ohio State and get a sense for what a Big 10 school is like.

Team Final is in, too. Rallying from a halftime deficit to beat City Rocks, 73-55. Villanova-commit Markus Kennedy also had a strong effort along with Gilchrist.

Gary Frankin, the Cali Supreme point guard of powerful Mater Dei high school is in the same boat as Dwayne Polee, waiting to see what happens next at USC as they are both Trojan verbal commitments for 2010.

Cali Supreme is first one into the 17-U championship, holding off Team Florida. Keala King is leaving an imprint in NYC this weekend.

The 16-U Gold championship match-up is New Heights and NJ Playaz. Impressive run for the Playaz with Myles Mack and Desmond Hubert in St. Louis for the Nike Jamboree.

Team Final storms out of the break and now leads City Rocks by 10. It has been an impressive spring for Team Final. Michael Gilchrist is killing it right now…the legend grows!

Team Florida has been getting impressive play from Okaro White, Wilfried Yaguete, Keith MacDougald and Anthony Lee. Their balance has been a big plus for them.
Miles Cartwright was hitting early for Cali Supreme and Keala King is starting to assert himself as the game moves on.

It is halftime of the 17-U Gold Semifinals. City Rocks hold a 36-33 lead over Team Final and Team Florida is up 30-28 on Cali Supreme at the break.

The Gold 17-U semifinals are set with Cali Supreme facing Team Florida and Team Final against our weekend host, City Rocks.
In the 17-U Silver bracket it is the NJ Roadrunners and Sports University with CBC and Louisiana Select on the other half.
Kyrie Irving‘s dad is here and sporting Indiana hat and sweatshirt.
Jaylen Bond and the East Coast Elite was knocked out of the Silver bracket earlier by CBC. Bond told NBE this morning that he has taken unofficial visits to Florida, Virginia, LaSalle and will reschedule the trip to Florida State that was put off due to finals. Temple, St. Joseph’s, West Virginia and Villanova are also involved with the impressive 2011 forward.
City Rocks got past Westchester Hawks in OT for a spot in the semis. Cali Supreme turned back Juice in a game that got quite heated down the stretch.

The quarterfinals in the 17-U Silver bracket are going on right now with all four games happening. The match-ups are Gold Coast (FL) vs. Louisiana Select, Connecticut Basketball Club vs. East Coast Elite, Sports University vs. Team NJ ABC and YIS Spree vs. NJ Roadrunners.
On the 17-U Gold side, the final 8 are:
City Rocks vs. Westchester Hawks
Team Final vs. NY Panthers
Cal Supreme vs. Juice All-Stars
Nike Team Baltimore vs. Nike Team Florida
One little recruiting note, Tyler Olander of the Xpressions Elite 16-U squad told NBE this morning that he is hearing from Providence and Vanderbilt. Olander, a 6-foot-9 lefty with range, recently earned an invite to the Reebok All-American camp with his play at the Headliner Tryout camp. He attends E.O. Smith HS in CT.
