June 13, 2009 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment
Jeff Borzello returns to Fordham for the day and Matt Whitfield joins the fun and is stationed at Manhattan College for the events of the day.
We will try and keep everyone abreast of what is happening throughout the day and into the evening…
12:00 PM: Matt Whitfield notes that the Mass Rivals’ Matt Brown will head from the Rumble to the Virginia elite camp tomorrow night as UVA is now showing interest in the talented two-sport athlete.
11:58 AM: Elite 2012 prospect DeJuan Coleman, who was a high school teammate of Brandon Triche at Jamesville-DeWitt HS near Syracuse (NY) this past year, lists Syracuse, Ohio State, Georgetown, Rutgers, Kansas, Kentucky and LSU, according to Jeff Borzello.
11:47 AM: Class of 2011 high scoring guard Shabazz Napier of the NE Playaz told Jeff Borzello that Syracuse, Connecticut, Memphis, Kansas and Kentucky represent his top 5 and he is heading to the UVA elite camp and possibly the Xavier elite camp this summer.
11:20 AM: Carson Desrosiers mentioned Florida as a school that is now showing interest. For a more detailed update on Desrosiers, see our Rumble in the Bronx: First Night update.
11:00 AM: Jeff Borzello checks in from Fordham as the NY Panthers cruise past IS8 upstart East Coast Elite in pool play. One of the hottest prospects of the spring, J.J. Moore, will have plenty of Big East coaches checking him out this summer. His list already sounds like that of an elite prospect with Connecticut, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Marquette, St. John’s, Rutgers, Oklahoma and Florida recruiting him. Moore mentioned favorites as Louisville, Pitt, UConn, Syracuse and Marquette. He plans to visit UL, UConn, Marquette and Providence.
10:45 AM:Rod Odom did not get to play much on the spring AAU circuit because of Saturday classes at the academic powerhouse Middlesex School in Concord (MA). The New York native is here at the Rumble and his recruitment is still as strong as ever as he impressed visitors to his school earlier this spring.
Odom cited a list of schools such as UNC, Louisville, Florida, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Arizona, which is a sample of who is recruiting the versatile 6-foot-8 wing.
Didn’t see the game, but the Juice All-Stars beat NJ ABC by 24 with Russ Smith and Joel Wright reportedly looking very good.
9:20 AM: At Manhattan College, the CT Select took on the NY Metro Hawks in one of the early morning games with the boys from Connecticut getting the win.
Josh Turner, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Waterbury (CT) and Sacred Heart HS told NBE following the game that he is receiving interest from Providence, West Virginia, Rhode Island and UMass. Turned indicated a preference of staying close to home for college.
