WAVERLY AUSTIN UPDATE

6’10 center reclassifies to 2010, picks up Big East offer, schedules Big East visit
It has been an eventful few weeks for Waverly Austin, a 6-foot-10 center who is currently attending God’s Academy in Texas.
Originally a member of the class of 2009, Austin was a player that always seemed to be getting several looks from high-major programs. With his recent decision to do a post-graduate season and become a member of the class of 2010, the interest in Austin has greatly increased.
Expect the interest and exposure to only grow this summer as the 238-pound big man will hit the AAU circuit with the Brandon Bass Elite program and late last month he performed well enough at the Washington, DC-area Reebok Headliner Tryout camp to earn a coveted invite to the Reebok All-American camp next month in Philadelphia.
In the meantime, Austin has kept very busy, just retirning back from a weekend at the Florida State elite camp and has stop as the elite camps at Maryland and Virginia up next. In between, Austin plans a visit to a Big East school as well.
“I am going to Georgetown Saturday for an unofficial visit,” Austin told NBE earlier this afternoon.
The Hoyas are not the only Big East team showing interest in Austin’s talents as South Florida has remained a constant on his list and Tim Miller, the coach at God’s Academy, informed him earlier today of an offer from a Big East program.
“My coach told me I got an offer from Seton Hall today,” Austin said.
The schools currently under consideration by Austin include Virginia, South Florida, Georgetown, Florida State, Maryland, Seton Hall, Florida International, Arkansas and Georgia. Strong performances in the next month will certainly have that list multiplying rapidly.
