SUNDAY NOTES FROM PROVIDENCE JAM FEST

April 27, 2009 by · 1 Comment

Many Big East targets discuss their recruiting options this weekend

The expectation for the weekend was likely a championship game between Boo Williams and the NE Playaz, but instead, the NJ Celtics and Mass Rivals emerged in the championship contest Sunday in the Providence Jam Fest put on by the Hoop Group with the Kyrie Irving-led Celtics taking the title.

Still the action throughout the weekend was well worth a trip to the scenic Rhode Island city and below are some recruiting updates of some of the top players who were in action this weekend that Matt Whitfield was able to see during the festivities.

Will Regan, of the Albany City Rocks, told NBE this weekend that he is currently considering offers from Maryland, Virginia, Stanford, Arizona State and Providence. Regan is a 6-foot-8 forward who plays at the Nichols School near Buffalo (NY).

Carson Desrosiers of the Mass Rivals is a 6-foot-10, 210-pound skilled big man that is definitely a high priority recruit for several programs. This weekend, Desrosiers indicated to NBE that he had narrowed his list down to a top eight of his scholarship offers. The top eight for the Lawrence (MA) Central Catholic star consists of Syracuse, Providence, Marquette, Purdue, Stanford, UNLV, Arizona State and Georgia Tech.

Desrosiers is planning to visit with Purdue and Marquette this week.

Thomas Jefferson (NYC) High School guard Davontay Grace, a class of 2011 prospect running with the Dana Dingle’s 16-U Long Island Lightning squad this weekend let NBE know that he has offers already from Villanova, St. John’s, Providence and Missouri. He is also getting interest from schools such as West Virginia, Kentucky, Kansas State and others.

Boo Williams sent a loaded team to Providence this weekend, including Luke Cothron, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Flora Macdonald Academy in Red Spring (NC). Cothron previous toured the AAU circuit with Southeast Elite before making the move to Boo Williams this year.

Cothron is one of the most highly recruited power forwards in the class of 2010 and listed scholarship offers on Sunday from North Carolina, West Virginia, Syracuse, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida, Florida State, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisville, Memphis and Kentucky.

Anchoring the post for Boo Williams is 6-foot-10, Chantilly (VA) High School product John Manning. The big man listed schools such as George Mason, North Carolina State, Penn State, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Richmond as schools of interest currently.
———————————————

One of the elite frontcourt players in the class of 2011 is James McAdoo of Norfolk (VA) Christian School. The 6-foot-8 power forward has been to the campuses of Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Florida for unofficial visits. He is being recruited actively by those schools and “every school from the ACC” other than Miami at this point. UCLA, Syracuse, Connecticut, Marquette, Texas and Old Dominion where other schools McAdoo mentioned as showing significant interest in him.

The bad news for most of those teams hoping he will some day suit up for their school is McAdoo grew up watching UNC basketball as his father is a big Tar Heel fan, which could certainly play a role in his decision process.
