Wisconsin Lutheran High School junior G/F Flavien Davis is one to watch as the high school basketball season winds down and the spring AAU season is about to get underway. But, before we see Davis on the AAU circuit with the Wisconsin Scholars, he and his Viking teammates have some work left to do in the Wisconsin state playoffs.

“We [are] doing real good, 19-2 right now going into the playoffs,” Davis told NBE of his teams performance to date. [We are] playing really good team ball.”

The Vikings raised that record to 20-2 with a thrilling overtime win over rival Milwaukee Lutheran. After seeing a late lead evaporate, including a buzzer-beating game-tying three by their opponents, Davis and his teammates re-grouped and came out on top, 69-61, after overtime to advance onto the sectional semifinals this Thursday.

Davis was the star in the win over Milwaukee Lutheran, scoring 26 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and also added 4 assists and 3 blocked shots. For the season, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound junior averaged approximately 16.5 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists a game showing a new dynamic to his game this year.

“Playmaking,” Davis responded when asked about his biggest strength to his game. “Because I can penetrate really well and dump it off or finish myself, but it can always improve [more].”

College coaches have also taken notice of Davis’ all-around game. A player that can score, rebound, handle and pass with good size will definitely be in demand and Davis has colleges interested to back that theory up.

“Miami is kind of my leader,” Davis said of the Hurricanes and his recruitment. “Others are UW-Green Bay, Marquette, Baylor, Indiana, Florida State [and] Minnesota.”

Even with a leader, Davis is planning to see the process through the summer and the AAU season. The criteria for a decision will center on what’s best for him and his family. Until that decision comes, Davis will work on his game, especially shoring up one particular area.

“My shooting,” Davis responded when asked what area of his game he plans to work on the most this spring and summer. I can hit the three or mid-range [jumper] but I’m a tad bit streaky.”

The NBE Basketball Report very much looks forward seeing Flavien Davis on the AAU circuit this season. The do-it-all G/F will certainly have the college coaches following him around.
