Findlay College Prep is once again loaded with talent for the 2008-2009 season. The prep power located within the Henderson International School in Henderson (NV) is now 9-0 on the young season after an 80-49 victory over Stoneridge (CA) Academy last week.
Most people identify Findlay this season with Texas signee Avery Bradley as well as other committed 2009 players such as DJ Richardson (Illinois) and Carlos Lopez (UNLV) who have also chosen to continue their basketball careers at nationally renowed programs. However, another prospect in the class of 2009 is presently drawing a lot of attention from the high major coaches as unsigned forward Victor Rudd is turning heads with a strong beginning to his season at Findlay.
Against Stoneridge, Rudd led the way for the Pilots in putting up a game-high 22 points and pulling down 9 rebounds in the contest. Production that has been the norm for the California native that previously attended Van Nuys High School.
“Victor is taking off as we expected,” Findlay assistant coach Todd Simon told the NBE Basketball Report in an e-mail.
On the season, Rudd is second only to Bradley on the team in scoring, with an average of 15 points a game. Rudd leads the squad with 9.2 rebounds for a team that is currently ranked #2 in the nation according to USA Today.
“He’s a 6’8 G/F that can be a college two thru four,” says coach Simon. “For us he plays all five positions. Bob Gibbons had him the #2 shooting small forward but for us he has been an unbelievable defender/rebounder and high basketball IQ guy that can really pass [the ball].”
Rudd had attracted many looks while performing on the AAU circuit in the previous year. Running with the California-based 2D1 Basketball Academy, Rudd showed off his athletic ability and versatility at many events, including an impressive display at the Pango All-American Camp in early June. The potential that coaches see in the 6-foot-8, 205-pound wing is highly impressive and makes a long list of college suitors interested in his services and hope to possibily sign him to a scholarship this coming April.
“Marquette has been on him since he got here,” indicated coach Simon. “Providence and Rutgers both want him and are in pursuit recently. Washington, Arizona, Oregon St, UNLV, Texas Tech, USC along with a bunch of high major inquiries are checking in.”
With college coaches looking to add a major addition in the spring, expect Victor Rudd to continue to be a hot name on the recruiting trail from coast to coast.
