Several things to catch up on this Monday as Notre Dame got a commitment over the weekend, Providence might have gotten a commitment and an update on one of Notre Dame’s visitors from the last weekend.
We also introduce readers to a 2010 prospect who just received an offer from a Big East school. Dominic Cheek has some visits in mind, Marquette has a scheduled visitor coming as they look to finish with one of the nation’s top recruiting classes.
Some trouble is brewing within the Rutgers program as two seniors are indefinitely suspended from game competition. Also, one of USF’s players is in trouble for some pubklic brews…
Earlier today in our Notre Dame Recruiting Update we reported on Mike Broghammer being the latest 2009 commitment for Mike Brey and his Notre Dame program. Also this weekend, Tom Droney Visits Notre Dame and provides his thoughts in a follow-up interview with the NBE Basketball Report.
Also, we have a chance to expose fans to a new name bursting onto the recruiting landscape as we are Introducing Roderick Odum Jr to readers. The 6-foot-8 class of 2010 guard/forward needs little introduction to college coaches as Seton Hall has already extended an offer and Louisville, Rutgers, West Virginia and Georgetown are just some of the schools committed to coming by his high school this month to watch him work out.
Reports out of Michigan indicate that Duke Mondy could be the latest commitment to Keno Davis’ Providence Friars program, joining Notre Dame Prep guard Antoine Allen. Is it Mondy for PC (Providence Journal)? The 6-foot-3 shooting guard out of Grand Rapid’s Catholic Central was on a visit to PC this past weekend, joined by Detroit Community HS 6-foot-8 big man James Still, and it looks like he may have committed, we will try to find a confirming story today.

Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has a Some Tidbits out of Marquette as junior guard David Cubillan continue to recover from dual off-season shoulder surgery and is just now picking up a basketball for the first time since last spring.
New coach Buzz Williams, already with a VERY impressive 2009 recruiting haul in order, will welcome Michael Snaer to campus the weekend of September 19th for an official visit. Snaer is a 6-foot-5 wing prospect from Moreno Valley (CA).

Dominic Cheek continues to be one of the most sought-after recruits within the Big East and nationally. According to ZagsBlog.net, Cheeks Sets Visits to three schools: Wake Forest, Kansas and Villanova and it looks like Tennessee could get one as well with schools such as Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Connecticut and Rutgers hoping for that 5th visit.

The youth within the Rutgers program has many fans of the Scarlet Knights very excited. That youth was expected to compliment veterans, such as seniors JR Inman, Jaron Griffin and Anthony Farmer, and work their way into the mix. Now, however, expect the younger players to be thrown into the fire as Griffin and Inman Have Been Suspended by Rutgers (ZagsBlog.net) head coach Fred Hill indefinitely from game competition. The players will still be partaking in team activities, such as practices and workouts, but they will be on the bench come game time, not in uniform.
A source with previous knowledge of the suspensions had informed the NBE Basketball Report that at least one of the suspensions could last the entire non-conference portion of the schedule for what the University is calling a ‘violation of team policies.’

After being dismissed from the Georgia program, 6-foot-4 guard Mike Mercer landed at South Florida, now he might be in hot water at USF following a weekend arrest. USF’s Mercer Was Arrested on Public Drinking Charge (St. Petersburg Times) at 3:21 AM Saturday morning in the vicinity of a nightclub in Tampa. Mercer, who is 21, was charged with a misdemeanor of public consumption of alcohol within 500 feet of a licensed establishment, according to the police report.
