September 4, 2008 – After having recently completed an unofficial visit to Georgetown, it became clear to all that Naadir Tharpe is being recruited by high major schools. A recent phone conversation with Naadir revealed Big East schools have coveted him for awhile.

“Xavier, Marquette, Providence and UMass” have all recruited him, said the 5’11”, 165 pounds point guard. Those four institutions have tendered Tharpe scholarship offers. Georgetown is clearly interested now, as have been Virginia and Florida for some time.

Now headed to Brewster Academy after starring at Worcester’s (MA) Saint Peter – Marian, Tharpe’s recruitment before his graduation in 2011 is sure to advance.

Why leave a school in his hometown, where he dropped 26 points and six assists for Brewster? “They were recruiting me” shared Naadir of his motivation for transferring. “Once I found out most of the kids went out to D-I schools, that’s a plus”.

A self-described “pure point guard” who can score but nevertheless loves to drop teammates dimes, Tharpe expects to improve his “jumpshot of course”, along with his total skill package at Brewster. The school’s coach, Jason Smith, along with its top level schedule and training regimen, plus Naadir’s work ethic, will likely bring that about.

When asked about Naadir, a travel team source that coached against him was highly complimentary, stating “I think going to Brewster will help the kid. He’s a point guard that competes and with improvement could really develop there”.

Stay tuned for more Naadir Tharpe coverage. He’s definitely an up and comer who could definitely be on Big East floors in 2011.
