Irish commit Joey Brooks impressive at Lebron James Skills Academy
by Doug Ferguson
Notre Dame has a history of finding the perfect blend of student and athlete to produce a true student/athlete. They also have a history of going to all ends of the country to find them.
Their 2009 basketball class handpicked another great one from the Lonestar State this year in 6-foot-5 wing Joey Brooks. In the Pac Man Jones era of the off the court athlete, Brooks is well spoken and family oriented. On the court Brooks is notorious for his scoring but showed his ability to get his teammates involved at the LeBron James Skills Academy where he was second to none on the point in transition. “I’m going to bring you a guard with size who could score, and guard both backcourt spots”, Brooks said.
Notre Dame currently boasts on their roster the Player of the Year in the Big East in Luke Harangody. With Brooks heading up a class of newcomers on the floor next year that includes transfer players Scott Martin, via Purdue and Ben Hansbrough, via Mississippi State and (rising) high school senior Jack Cooley, who continues to be impressive on the AAU circuit this summer as Cooley Leads Rising Stars in Chicago Classic to a recent win, the Irish will be a force to be reckoned with in the present and for years to come.
