Georgetown commit Riley shines against Henson at LeBron James Acadamy

2009 Georgetown commit DaShonte Riley came into this year’s LeBron James Skills Academy as somewhat of an enigma. While many scouts have him in the nations top 50, he has slipped below 100 on others recruit rankings. In a matchup against consensus top 10 recruit John Henson (North Carolina), he proved that the former were on point and the latter were doing a lot of over thinking.

The NBE Basketball Report got a chance to get to know the Hoya recruit a little better…

The soft-spoken center out of Detroit has been taking hits from certain scouts as being unaggressive, soft, and not having enough of a mean streak. He took it right to Henson right from the get go with a tip dunk in the first minute of play with Henson also in the poster photographer’s crosshares. He broke out his full offensive arsenal scoring on offensive rebounds, facing up from 10-12 feet, and even showing great passing skills from the post. He really showed the bandwagon of doubters that their first instict was right and is definitely deserved of all the praise he was given at one point in time.

Long-time basketball columnist Frank Burlison of the Long Beach Press-Telegram definitely agreed with our assesment of Riley including him among the top half-dezen performers over Sunday and Monday at the camp with the likes of Henson, John Wall, Xavier Henry, DeMarcus Cousins and super 2011 prospect Michael Gilchrist.
