2009 top prospect likes to draw off the court, punish opponents on the court
Noel Johnson, a 6-foot-7 class of 2009 small forward prospect from Fayette County (GA) High School has had the attention of college recruiters for a long time. His play this spring and early summer with the high-powered Atlanta Celtics has done nothing but increase that attention.
Johnson has the bloodlines to be successful in basketball. His father is Lynbert ‘Cheese’ Johnson, a former star at Wichita State who accumulated over 1,900 points and 1,000 rebounds, being named to the 1st team all-MVC conference twice and 2nd team once in his four year career with the Shockers. He is a member of Wichita State’s athletic Hall of Fame.
Now it is Noel’s turn to be the family basketball star and colleges are lining up to bring the versatile forward into their program. Since a successful run at the NBA Top 100 camp at the University of Virginia recently, Johnson has continued to hear often from schools such as Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Louisville, USC and Wake Forest. For now, he is not quite tipping his hand of a leader.
“No, I’m still wide open,” Johnson said. Buit, he did offer up a couple planned visits in the future. “I plan to visit USC and Louisville in the fall.”
For now, Johnson will concentrate on performing well in front of coaches at the Lebron James Skills Academy next week and at events such as the Super 64 Tournament in Las Vegas with the Atlanta Celtics. Noel has a defined view of his strengths and an area he hopes to show improvement in when coaches peek in on him in July.
“Some of my strenghts are scoring and rebounding,” Johnson idicated to the NBE Basketball Report. “I plan to become more active on defense, and being more vocal on the court,” Johnson responded when asked of an area of his game he’d like to show improvement on going forward into the summer.
Off the court, Johnson indicated he enjoys drawing. With his skills in basketball, it looks like Noel Johnson has drawn a plan for future success. We will look forward to seeing how far it takes him, the picture definitely is looking pretty good from what we see!
