June 25, 2008 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment
We will have a final report from the NBA Top 100 Camp early this afternoon, so check back for that. Look for more from the Hoop Group High School Showcase beginning tonight and a few recruiting interviews we are finishing over the next day or so as well. Lots of good stuff!!
Today, around the Big East, it has already been reported Syracuse will welcome a transfer. Unfortunately, at USF, it looks like one key recruit will not be attending this fall.
Some new recruiting names are on the board with Bak Bak out of California, Jacob Jenkins out of Kentucky as well as brief updates on Noel Johnson, Dan Jennings, Stephan Van Treese and Tobias Harris.
Pitt and West Virginia players will be playing with and against each other in a very competitive summer league that tips off tonight. Check it out if you are in the Pittsburgh area…it is free and open to the public.
Earlier today we posted a Big East Roster Update for Syracuse as the Orange will welcome a VERY talented transfer into their program.
South Florida is another Big East team undergoing a roster change as Dwan McMillan, a Touted NJ Prep Point Guard, Wont Attend USF (Tampa Tribune) after signing a LOI in April.
The Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s Prep point guard is still working toward meeting NCAA academic qualifying standards. “I’m disappointed he won’t be attending USF,” Stan Heath was quoted in the Tribune.
Also, an update on Stanley Robinson and his situation and future in the Big East.
The LA Times blog, the Varsity Times Insider introduces readers to an intriguing college basketball prospect. Village Christian’s Bak Bak has Unusual Name and Game and the 6’9 class of 2009 big man has a high ceiling to keep improving.
Gonzaga and Oregon State have offered him a scholarship while schools like Louisville and Pittsburgh have shown interest in his talents and will continue to track his progress.
Bak Bak is certainly a name you are unlikely to forget and could be hearing more from in the future.

Here in the east we are not too familiar with Jacob Jenkins, one of the top players in the state of Kentucky. However, we better learn because if your good enough to be invited by Louisville to visit, you can definitely play. Jenkins was Touring U of L (Louisville Courier-Journal) yesterday as the 6’4 guard made an unofficial visit to the school. Jenkins has an offer from Wisconsin and also played well at the Kentucky Elite Camps according to the Courier-Journal.
The Louisville Courier-Journal’s Jody Demling also posted a couple Big East notes of interest on his blog last night:
Fayetteville (GA) forward Noel Johnson told Scout.com’s Evan Daniels that he was “wide open,” but he did mention that Louisville, USC, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest were coming on hard. Kentucky is recruiting him and I still like the chances for U of L.
New York big man Dan Jennings, who averaged 18 points a game last season for Oak Hill Academy, is seriously looking at Louisville. He’s also listing St. John’s and Minnesota among several other schools. Jennings is a 6-foot-8, 230-pound post player.

Torrel Harris Sr. dropped an e-mail to us this morning giving a recruiting update on his talented 6-foot-7 son, Tobias Harris. The class of 2010 small forward has scholarship offers from Louisville, Connecticut, Indiana, Maryland, Marquette, Baylor, St. John’s, West Virginia, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Miami, Delaware, Hofstra and North Carolina State. Others that have begun to show more interest beginning this month include Kansas, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Auburn, Seton Hall, Texas, Arizona State, Memphis, Oklahoma, Providence, DePaul and Syracuse.

IUPlanet caught up with Stephan Van Treese after he took a recent visit to meet face to face with Tom Crean. The 6-foot-9 forward from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis has a top five list of Indiana, UCLA, Kansas, Louisville and Ohio State as IU Still in It After PF’s Visit (IUPlanet.com).

Players from Pittsburgh and West Virginia will face some tough competition this summer, each other, in the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Pro-Am league that begins tonight. The Quality Rises for Summer Basketball League (Post-Gazette) as Pitt and WVU players will be joined by other Division 1-A players from Robert Morris and Duquesne and past college stars and pro players such as Chevy Troutman, Dante Calabria, John DeGroat and Keith Benjamin will also compete in the NCAA sanctioned league. Rules state that only two returning players of the same school can be on the same team in summer basketball, so the talent will be dispersed among the six teams.
Games will be every Monday and Wednesday at the Greentree Sportsplex in Green Tree. Games will be played at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. and admission is free and open to the public.

There are still questions about Stanley Robinson’s future at Connecticut, the Waterbury Republican-American reports that the Huskies ‘Robinson is Dealing With Personal Issues that has taken him away from attending the summer sessions in Storrs. It is still unclear if he would make it back for the Fall semester, but the door seems to be ajar.
